My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Birthdate: 5/12/11

Gender: Male

Breed: Lab/Miniature Husky

Siblings: Pepe, Pierre, Jean-Luc, Vachon, Gizelle, Antoinette, Claude, Lucien

Parlez-vous français? No? That’s okay. These puppies don’t either, despite their names. The boys all blame Gizelle’s foster mommy for starting the French thing, poor puppies.

The French Gang were so tiny when they first came to us. In fact, all eight puppies fit into a small beer box with a little room to spare.

The pups were turned over to the Mahoning County Dog Pound as strays by a man who claimed he just found them, but we suspect he was actually their mother’s owner. They were only three weeks old at the time, but they were spunky and determined, and they have thrived with us.

The puppies have been very well socialized. They are great with other dogs of all sizes, kids and even cats. They love to be cuddled.

We believe the puppies are Lab/Miniature Husky mixes based on their fur, size and markings. We’re expecting them to reach roughly 40 pounds as adults. At the moment, they don’t seem to have the double coat of a traditional Husky, but a puppy’s fur can change as they grow, so we wouldn’t rule it out just yet.

The French Gang haven’t been spayed/neutered just yet because they’re only six weeks old, but this will be done BEFORE you take them home. Our puppies are usually fixed at 8–10 weeks old, so they have just a little bit of growing to do yet.

Interested in adopting? You can meet the puppies NOW to choose your favorite. The puppies are at the shelter, so you can meet them any time during adoption hours, Thursday through Sunday 5 to 8pm, or call 330–397–8270 to schedule an appt at another time or on another day. Once you have your puppy picked out, you’ll fill out the adoption application at the shelter. If approved, you must leave a 50% deposit ($100) to hold your puppy. As soon as they are ready to be fixed, we will have the surgery done, and they can go home with you the day after surgery.

JULY 4TH ADOPTION HOURS: New Lease on Life will be open Saturday, July 2, and Sunday, July 3, for regular adoption hours, 5 to 8pm. We WILL be open July 4th for EXTENDED HOURS 3 to 8pm. Visit us to find your new best friend.
