Horatio's Story...
Horatio is an adult male dog that we estimate to be around 1 to 2 years of age. He looks like a purebred Chihuahua and weighs about 6 pounds. He came to us after someone found him loose in a rural area between Austin and Brownsdale. Horatio is a very sweet little guy, but is still young and spunky. Sometimes little dogs like this are not the best fit in homes that have very young children or toddlers, but it can depend a lot on the age and maturity of the kids too. Horatio has been given a rabies vaccination, a distemper/combo vaccination, a deworming, and has been neutered. His adoption fee is $95. We utilize a short adoption application form to assess compatibility between dogs and their prospective homes. This form is a simple one-sided Microsoft Word document and it can be e-mailed to you upon request. If you would like to receive the form via e-mail, or if you have any other questions, please send us an e-mail message. It would be best to e-mail us, rather than calling the Shelter. Thanks for looking at Horatio!

Why Adoption is a Great Option

Horatio, a Austin Chihuahua dog was adopted! Here's how you can benefit by looking at adoption as an option to buying a Chihuahua for sale in Austin, or seeking a Chihuahua dog from a breeder in Austin.

  1. Rescues and shelter volunteers in Austin already know the personality and tendencies of their pets. This means they can match you with the right pet. That will makes it much easier transition to owning a pet for yourself and your new pet.
  2. On average adoption fees are much less than you'd pay a Austin breeder, or pet store. Plus most often rescue pets have already been to the veterinarian for a check-up, had a round of vaccinations, and are spayed or neutered. That is a lot of savings!
  3. You will become a hero, and give a needy dog or cat a loving home. In fact, there are even Chihuahua breeders who help with Chihuahua rescue. One puppy or kitten adopted in Austin paves the way for another one to be saved.
