My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Pia--I call her Pia Feral--is an American shorthair, white with black splotches, a white face with a Frito Bandito face mask and a white behind with an all-black tail that looks like it is screwed into her backside. As an adult, she will be a dignified and pretty cat, but the primary characteristic of her appearance is that she is cute, perfect in the red gingham collar I keep on her so I know where she is. She looks like something out of a child's first grade reader, and indeed, she would be a very good pet in a household where there are children, provided she was treated gently until she got the lay of the land. She is bright, athletic, engaged, extroverted, active as any kitten. But Pia is above all else gentle. She tolerates the occasional crotchetiness of my 14-year-old cat. She never strikes, never hisses, never bites, loves other cats, but probably because of bad experiences, is terrified of dogs. She loves her wicker cat tree, watches TV on occasion, dissolves into purrs the moment she is touched, is learning to do head butts now, and when corrected immediately stops what she's doing and sits down waiting to be picked up. She loves Boars Head turkey breast and when she sees the cold cut container come out of the fridge, she will 'yip' for a treat. She does the majority of her eating at bedtime when the rest of the house is quiet, and prefers the other cat's food over her own, probably because of the pecking order when she was outside.

Pia has just a smidge of skittishness sometimes, especially when she hears the crinkle of plastic bags or when she encounters the potentially threatening new experience. But upon reassurance, she gets over it. Pia will come with a dowry of a little inexpensive bed that is hers alone and an ASPCA canvas carrier I would feed her in at night so my senior couldn't get into Pia's kitten food. Pia is still a bit of a scavenger, so stuff can't be left on the floor that she should not eat as she will try. And she likes exploring any dishes left sitting around; the food in them always tastes good to her even if she doesn't like it when it is offered to her. And she likes to bat things that interest her down so she can investigate them or hook them with a claw so she can check them out.

This little animal is a little treasure, and if she is placed in a loving home with loved children, she will be the family companion who will set the standard for the children as they grow and who they remember even after they are grown and she is gone. She makes every penny, every minute, and every worry worthwhile. She is loved and when she finds a new home, she will be missed. But it is time for Pia to find her forever family; she has so much to offer them.
