My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

"CLEO" (CLEOPATRA)
Blue and Gold Macaw
fostered by Jennifer C of Tamp, FL

Cleo is short for Cleopatra....and what a beauty she is! She came from a good home, but was relinquished so she could find a home where she would have more attention. She's less that 5 years old, so she is so very young for a macaw, so you will need to be willing to keep her in your family for the next 60 years or more! She already eats pellets, fruit, and some veggies and loves table food, spaghetti for one, and will eat some of just about everything. If she doesn't take it straight away, put it in her bowl and she'll get around to trying it. She does need some time at first asshe's been through a lot in such a short time, but she comes around with an experienced hand. She came with a preference for men, only letting the wife transport her from place to place, but after only a week, she wants to "feed me" the foster mom. I've been working with her and not letting her scare tactics deter me and it has paid off. I can pick her up at any time and pet her beak and scratch her head and I even pet her down her back, and that's progress in such a short time! She will act aggressive occasionally, I call her a drama queen :), but she doesn't carry through and this is normal testing behavior for birds of this species. She comes right out of the cage and goes to her outside cage with the rest of the gang. She does like to be vocal and so we have been working on her sounds and words instead. She says "Hello" and "good girl" and other things that she is working on. She loves playing with her toys, and she talks and makes sounds while playing. She has come out of her shell a lot and I am sure she's going to be great when she gets a devoted family of her own. She can bring joy and laughter at her antics, when we watch her, we can't help but to laugh out loud!
