About Our Rescue Group...
We take in parrots who can no longer stay with their owners for whatever reason. If these companion pets have behavioral, physical or psycholocial issues, we work with them or seek treatment to correct the problems. These companions are then placed for adoption. We do have minimal adoption fees, an application must be completed and a home visit done before ever meeting the birds. We are 100% volunteer and non-profit. We participate as PETCO partners providing public education regarding parrot care and behavior. We also attend other pet oriented events to offer education. There are so many cat and dog rescues working hard to help with these animals. Parrot rescues are few and far between. We serve a 5 county area for adoption but actually have birds driven to us from the other coast of Fl. and all the way from Ocala to Punta Gorda to be relinquished.
We are always looking for volunteers. If you have a special talent let us know or if you just want to help socialize the birds we have many opportunities to offer. We also have a fostering program that's always in need of volunteers. We take donations of any type of parrot related items and certainly appreciate any monetary donations provided.

PARROT OUTREACH SOCIETY
Adoption Application
Exotic bird ownership is a serious responsibility and the adoption of an unwanted or rescued bird can introduce a myriad of additional factors which need to be considered. The Parrot Outreach Society and Cage Bird Club of Charlotte Co. want to be certain you understand what you’re in for before you make the decision to adopt a bird. We also want to be certain we know enough about you to feel confident we’re placing the bird into a satisfactory environment. Thank you for your interest in adopting a bird from us!

If there is anything else you would like to say regarding your desire or qualifications to adopt a bird, please write about it on the back of this form or on a separate sheet of paper.

We do ask a formal adoption donation, which varies according to species and condition, (and is lower than the fees requested in larger cities), to help us offset the costs of helping birds in need. Checks should be made payable to PARROT OUTREACH SOCIETY and the memo should read RESCUE. Donations are non-refundable.

Completion of this application does not guarantee you will qualify to adopt a bird. A criminal background check will be done. Prior to adoption, one or more members of the Parrot Society Rescue Team will visit your home to be sure you will be able to provide a healthy and safe environment for the bird. There is a $10 non-refundable fee for the visit. Anyone attempting to acquire birds for persons having lost pets to Charlotte County Animal Control will be reported to the authorities. An Adoption Contract must be signed prior to the bird leaving our possession.

Mission Statement:
The Parrot Outreach Society is a non-profit organization whose sole concern is parrot welfare in captivity and conservation of wild parrots. We are an outreach and placement program which places into safe custody, parrots which are abandoned, abused, or in need of a home for any reason.
Parrots are intelligent, highly social and complex beings with a life span of up to 80 years. The individual bird’s best interest and well being of the present flock will determine if a parrot is accepted into the organization.
We actively support networking with other parrot welfare groups, animal welfare organizations, the veterinary community, conservation organizations and the general public. Education is of the utmost importance concerning the well being of a parrot and its ability to successfully live with its human companions.

Standards of Care:
Parrot Outreach Society is a 501©(3), non-profit organization. We are a NO KILL organization working to create awareness of parrots throughout the world by supporting international conservation efforts and local public education regarding pet parrots.
