Cocoa's Story...
I’m a country girl from the ranching area of sw Texas. I had a good life on a ranch, under the open skies, chasing rabbits across the pasture. Then one day I put on my old web collar with my cow tag and went to town. And that’s when the trouble started. I got lassoed by a fellow who had a rope on the end of a pole. He put me in a truck and took me to jail. That place must have been jail because it had small pens with locks on the doors. I could have gone home if only my owner had put some I.D. on my cow tag, but it was blank. I spent 5 days in jail waiting for my owner to come get me, but no one ever came. Lucky for me, on the next morning a nice lady came and made arrangements for me to get out of jail. After another ride in the truck and a trip to the vet that nice lady came back to take me to a place called a boarding facility. Thank goodness she brought 2 sacks of food along. She must know us country girls have healthy appetites. I’m on the thin side right now, and I need to work on my coat; but that’s what the stress of being homeless will do to a girl. Also, there’s something new on my collar. It’s a leather name tag that says “Cocoa.” I guess that’s me. Well, if you like fresh air, lots of sunshine and good food, just ask for me, Cocoa.

P.S. There’s room on my collar for I.D. tags so I never get lost again.

Why Adoption is a Great Option

Cocoa, a Houston Shar Pei dog was adopted! Here's how you can benefit by looking at adoption as an option to buying a Shar Pei for sale in Houston, or seeking a Shar Pei dog from a breeder in Houston.

  1. Rescues and shelter volunteers in Houston already know the personality and tendencies of their pets. This means they can match you with the right pet. That will makes it much easier transition to owning a pet for yourself and your new pet.
  2. On average adoption fees are much less than you'd pay a Houston breeder, or pet store. Plus most often rescue pets have already been to the veterinarian for a check-up, had a round of vaccinations, and are spayed or neutered. That is a lot of savings!
  3. You will become a hero, and give a needy dog or cat a loving home. In fact, there are even Shar Pei breeders who help with Shar Pei rescue. One puppy or kitten adopted in Houston paves the way for another one to be saved.
