Einstein's Story...
Registered name: Fuzzy's Einstein--Einstein is a gentle and loving greyhound boy who has been waiting for a home for quite a while. He is gentle, very friendly, already home acclimated, and has a sweet and docile temperment. He walks nicely on a leash and rides well in a car. Einstein gets along fine with the other dogs in his foster home, but will chase a very small dog (under about 20 lbs.) or a cat. He is great with children, loves his stuffie toys, enjoys playing in the water, and loves his favorite treats: peanut butter, cream cheese, cheese, and Milkbones. He is a beautiful red brindle and is in very good condition at around 72 pounds. He was born in January 2004, and is the brother of Derby, who is also available for adoption. Einstein's $150 adoption fee includes his neuter, teeth cleaning, all vaccines, microchip, leash and collar, adoption guide, grooming mitt, and stuffie toy. If you do not have cats or small dogs, please consider giving Einstein a home for his retirement years. For more information or to meet Einstein, please contact us at 813/272-2332 or BAGA@tampabay.rr.com.

About Our Rescue Group...
Bay Area Greyhound Adoptions was founded in July 2004 for the purpose of finding pet homes for retired racing greyhounds of for those greyhounds who never qualified for the track. We are recognized as a 501(c)(3) charitable organization and all contributions are tax deductible to the extent allowed by law. We are an all-volunteer organization and all funds we raise go directly to help greyhounds in need. To date, we have found homes for almost 500 greyhounds. We also assist with transporting Florida greyhound to non-racing states for adoption.

All of our adoptable greyhounds are fostered in our own homes prior to adoption to insure that they are compatible with other pets, have good house manners, and that they have learned how to live happily in a home environment.

Come Meet Our Pets...
Please check out website, www.bayareagreyhounds.org for a list of adoption events each month. Since all of our greyhounds are fostered in individual homes, they are not in one central location. If you are interested in meeting a particular greyhound you see on Adoptapet.com, please call us for a location where that greyhound may be seen.
Our Adoption Process...
Our adoption process is easy! You complete and submit an Application to Adopt, which is available from any of our volunteers at our numerous adoption events, or complete an application on-line through our website. If you have pets, they will need to be spayed or neutered, current on vaccines, and on heartworm preventative. If you rent, you will need to have permission from your landlord to have a dog the size of a greyhound. After your application is approved, we will arrange to come to your home to provide you with information about greyhounds, to answer any questions you may have, and to make sure that the greyhound you have chosen and your pets are compatible. Adoption fees range from $250 for most of our greyhounds to $150 for senior greyhounds, age 7 or older. We also have a few "prison trained" greyhounds who are $300 because they have had extra training. Each month, we also choose a "Featured Pet", which has a special $100 adoption fee.

The adoption fee partially defrays the veterinary costs we incur. Before adoption, your greyhound will be spayed or neutered, have had his or her teeth cleaned, received all vaccines, Bordetella (to guard against kennel cough), had a routine fecal check and wormed if necessary, have been micro chipped, and have been started on heartworm preventative. You will also receive a leash and collar, adoption guide, grooming glove, stuffie toy, turn-out muzzle, BAGA ID tag, toothbrush, and oral gel.

We Serve the Following Cities, Towns, and/or Counties...
Central Florida: Hillsborough, Pinellas, Polk, Manatee, Sarasota, Pasco, Hernando, and Citrus Counties

Why Adoption is a Great Option

Einstein, a Tampa Greyhound dog was adopted! Here's how you can benefit by looking at adoption as an option to buying a Greyhound for sale in Tampa, or seeking a Greyhound dog from a breeder in Tampa.

  1. Rescues and shelter volunteers in Tampa already know the personality and tendencies of their pets. This means they can match you with the right pet. That will makes it much easier transition to owning a pet for yourself and your new pet.
  2. On average adoption fees are much less than you'd pay a Tampa breeder, or pet store. Plus most often rescue pets have already been to the veterinarian for a check-up, had a round of vaccinations, and are spayed or neutered. That is a lot of savings!
  3. You will become a hero, and give a needy dog or cat a loving home. In fact, there are even Greyhound breeders who help with Greyhound rescue. One puppy or kitten adopted in Tampa paves the way for another one to be saved.
