Yuri's Information:

Yuri will require an adopter who is willing and able to give him the extra care and attention his medical issues require. He will require medications at least twice a day. He is a quiet and extremely affectionate companion who is happiest when he is next to you. He is calm and well mannered with kids, cats and other dogs.

Sex: Male

Breed: Poodle

Age: 10yrs old

Level of blindness: Completely Blind

Cause of eye issues: Keratoconjunctivitis sicca (KCS) causes chronic dry eyes.

Health issues: Yuri has Keratoconjunctivitis sicca (KCS) a condition which causes decreased tear production. It can be described as an inflammation of the cornea and conjunctiva from drying. When the watery part of the tears is not produced in adequate amounts, the eye becomes chronically inflamed, and scarring and pigmentation of the cornea may lead to a decrease in vision and eventually blindness. Yuri will need to be on daily eye drops to replace tears for the rest of his life. He also has an underactive thyroid which requires him to take thyroid replacement medication twice a day and have his blood levels monitored routinely. The medication is not expensive and easy to give. Due to arthritic changes in his lumbar and thoracic spine Yuri also takes an arthritis medication and a pain medication which he will most likely require long term. Like most senior dogs he does have some lumps and bumps that have been diagnosed as fatty tumors or cysts. Yuri was originally found as a stray and his dental health was in such a state that most of his teeth were previously extracted. He has healed well and has no difficulties eating.
