My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Drew 8 month old, male, rough coat, DEAF JRT. Drew is a fun loving guy who is still very puppy being active and likes his toys and chewies. He needs a home with other dogs that will be able to tolerate a JRT's play. He is housebroken, knows some sign language, and basic commands. He needs a person who will understand his special needs and continue to work with him on training. Because of his deafness, we do not suggest smaller children.

Adoption fee is $200 and applications are available at www.russellrescue.com, email okcjrt@aol.com for more info.

Drew loves everyone! He is an affectionate, gentle puppy who adores the attention of everyone he meets. He enjoys spending time with other dogs as well. He is currently in a home with several other dogs and is a great playmate for them. He loves his toys, especially his stuffed frog and will sit on your lap and chew away. He loves to run and play and he often gets the other dogs to chase him around the yard until everyone is beat. Drew is deaf, but this is hardly a disability. He knows more than 20 hand signs and is continuing to learn each day. Some of his commands are: sit, stay, down, stand, good job, look at me, come, go potty, crate, shake, roll over, food, water, stop/no, ball, play, hello, goodbye, give kisses, and settle down. Some people have asked if deaf dogs bark...Drew barks just like a dog with hearing, however, he is not startled by noises or other dogs barking, so he barks less frequently.

Drew's crate is in the bedroom and he sleeps throughout the night with hardly a peep. He wakes up with slow stretches and gives lots of love and kisses in the morning. During the day, he has spent time in his crate, at work with his foster mom, or playing in the house (supervised) with the other dogs. Drew is doing well on his house training. He will continue to do well with a consistent schedule with frequent potty breaks and lots of praise!

Drew would prefer a home with other dogs, as he takes many cues from them and enjoys their company. Drew is an active pup, and will also need lots of outlets for his energy - playing, tugging, running in a large yard, perhaps a dog sport such as flyball, agility, or frisbee!

Drew is incredibly intelligent, as you would expect with a Jack Russell Terrier, and is eager to learn, be trained, and be loved."
