Here's what the humans have to say about me:
We would like to explain that if you are looking for a perfect dog, they are rarely found in rescue. Our dogs often have unknown histories and we do our very best to evaluate each dog with kids, cats, and other dogs as well as determine how they behave in a home. It is important to understand that we have some specific criteria for each dog based on their backgrounds and input from their foster families. The purpose of these criteria is to better match each dog with an appropriate family. While a certain dog might appeal to you based on breed, size, gender or appearance, you may not match the listed criteria. Please understand that we are not trying to make adoption difficult—we are trying to make each adoption successful for the dog and the new family.

If you have children, we suggest that prior to applying for a dog, you view the website http://www.livingwithkidsanddogs.com. The information is excellent and can help you determine which dog would be right for your family.
If you would like a full sized Doberman but don't have the room, Sarge might be a perfect fit for you. He is most probably a German Pinscher based on his conformity to breed standards as well as his temperament. (This is a rare breed and one breeder has disputed this. He was DNA tested and the results showed he is a miniature pinscher, a descendant of the German pinscher, but the test doesn’t have the ability to test for German pinschers due to their rarity and min pins are very common. Whatever his breed, Sarge is a smart, loyal companion for a mature adult who understands alpha leadership as he is a “take charge” kind of dog. Sarge is 5-6 years old, weighs 24 pounds and stands 18" at the shoulder. His ears and tails were cropped and docked prior to coming into rescue. Sarge does best as an only pet in a home. True to his breed, he is not safe with cats or any other small furry creatures as he will try to catch and kill them. Sarge also does best as an only dog, so his new home will have no other animals. He will do fine with dogs who don't live with him as long as they don't challenge him. He has lived with children as young as 5 but it is important to realize that dominant dogs do not recognize children under 13 as above them in the pack order. Sarge loves to go for car rides, camping, and on long walks. He also loves to lay out in the sun and soak up all the rays! It’s funny to watch him cuddle up under a blanket to nap, and you will find him there year ‘round. Sarge is house trained and crate trained and is an excellent leash walker. Sarge is with a 501c3 rescue and his adoption fee is $250. Sarge is neutered, up to date on shots, worming, heartworm and flea/tick prevention and has a HomeAgain microchip.
To ensure that this dog thrives in his new home and that the adoption works out for the dog and your family, these are the requirements for adoption. These criteria are not negotiable. If you do not meet these criteria, please choose another dog that will work out better for your family.
