My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

We would like to explain that if you are looking for a perfect dog, they are rarely found in rescue. Our dogs often have unknown histories and we do our very best to evaluate each dog with kids, cats, and other dogs as well as determine how they behave in a home. It is important to understand that we have some specific criteria for each dog based on their backgrounds and input from their foster families. The purpose of these criteria is to better match each dog with an appropriate family. While a certain dog might appeal to you based on breed, size, gender or appearance, you may not match the listed criteria. Please understand that we are not trying to make adoption difficult—we are trying to make each adoption successful for the dog and the new family.

If you have children, we suggest that prior to applying for a dog, you view the website http://www.livingwithkidsanddogs.com. The information is excellent and can help you determine which dog would be right for your family.

Precious is a darling miniature poodle whose local owner died and the family couldn't continue caring for her. You'll never believe that she is 10 years old--even the vet thought she was 6-7 years old!!! She is trim at 13 pounds and has a beautiful coat that has always been well kept. Precious is good with other dogs and ignores cats. She loves to go on walks, likes to play with toys and loves chasing squirrels and rabbits. She is very well trained and knows many commands including come, sit, down, stay and fetch. She can be a little protective of her food but is becoming more comfortable with the dogs in her foster home. Precious crates well but it isn't needed. She would probably be okay for a work day but Precious is a perfect dog for a retired person who is looking for a great companion. She does fine with other smaller dogs and cats, but would enjoy being an only dog again too as long as her human was home a lot. Precious is not a barker and is dependably house trained, so she would be an ideal resident in an apartment, condo, townhouse or home. Precious would rather not live with young kids, but teens would be fine and having someone home a lot would be wonderful for her. Precious is with a 501c3 non profit rescue, and came to rescue with her veterinary care out of date. Her adoption fee of $150 is half the cost of her vet bill. She is spayed, heartworm negative and on prevention, up to date on immunizations, worming and flea/tick prevention. Precious also was professionally groomed and has a HomeAgain microchip.

To ensure that this dog thrives in his new home and that the adoption works out for the dog and your family, these are the requirements for adoption. These criteria are not negotiable. If you do not meet these criteria, please choose another dog that will work out better for your family.

• Homeowners: Not required

• Status of adopter: Mature adult

• Previous dog owning experience: Preferred

• Age of children: Teens

• Another dog in the home: Not required
