Neglected Norton's Story...
When we first rescued Norton, he was in such bad shape we weren't sure if he was going to even survive. This poor tiny dog was found abandoned and brought to an area shelter in horrific shape. Filthy mats covered every inch of him, and when we started shaving them we actually found green moldy fur underneath from being dirty and wet for so long. He was completely emaciated, having trouble using his back legs, and was so weak he would just flop on his side as if he had given up. We rushed him right to our vet to get him the care he needed. We originally thought he may have been hit by a car or contracted a virus, but his x-rays revealed no broken bones and bloodwork was normal- his issues were caused by pure neglect and starvation. Our vets shaved him and under all that hair was a very young purebred shih tzu, probably only about 1-2 years old. Slowly he started to gain weight and gain back his strength, and after 2 weeks of regular meals and TLC he is a happy playful active little guy ready for a home. He is a tiny shih tzu and should probably be about 12 pounds at his ideal weight, and has an unusual brindle color. He gets along with most other dogs and is a spunky fiesty little guy who fought to survive the deplorable condition of his past. Norton is looking for an adult household where he will get proper care and training for the rest of his life. Please submit an application from our homepage if you are interested in this special little guy. Or please consider donating toward his medical bills so we can continue to rescue and nurse back to health others like him. Thank you!

We do not have a shelter- all our pets are in foster homes and can be seen by appointment only during the week, or at our weekly pet adoptions every Sunday at the Animal Clinic of Morris Plains from 12:30 to 3PM at 3009 Route 10 East next to 5 Star Car Wash (formerly Boulder Car Wash) in Morris Plains (Denville on GPS). To help us better match a pet to your household, we request you fill out an application on our homepage and copy and paste it into an email, or print it and bring it to our adoption day when you come. Local inquiries only please- we do not do long distance adoptions.

Can't adopt but still want to help this dog? Click on the "Sponsor Me" button at the top of this page to donate toward his/her care! All donations are tax-deductible and go directly toward the care of our rescue dogs. Thank you for your support!

Why Adoption is a Great Option

Neglected Norton, a Oak Ridge Shih Tzu dog was adopted! Here's how you can benefit by looking at adoption as an option to buying a Shih Tzu for sale in Oak Ridge, or seeking a Shih Tzu dog from a breeder in Oak Ridge.

  1. Rescues and shelter volunteers in Oak Ridge already know the personality and tendencies of their pets. This means they can match you with the right pet. That will makes it much easier transition to owning a pet for yourself and your new pet.
  2. On average adoption fees are much less than you'd pay a Oak Ridge breeder, or pet store. Plus most often rescue pets have already been to the veterinarian for a check-up, had a round of vaccinations, and are spayed or neutered. That is a lot of savings!
  3. You will become a hero, and give a needy dog or cat a loving home. In fact, there are even Shih Tzu breeders who help with Shih Tzu rescue. One puppy or kitten adopted in Oak Ridge paves the way for another one to be saved.
