Lucky's Story...
jumping dog

Our foster dogs live as family members in the foster home until chosen for adoption.

This is Lucky.

My name is Lucky, but my friends call me Duck. I’m a very, very, sweet and loving little dog. I’m around 7 or 8 years old, and I weigh about 15 lbs. I’m very active sometimes, and very cuddly others.

I was originally picked up as a stray, and I was in a dreadfully sad state. I was only a puny 10 lbs, and was completely emaciated. I was so sad and lonely. However, I’ve been steadily putting on weight, and I feel awesome!

I obviously used to be someone’s pet, because I am completely house broken, I come when called, love to take walks, know “sit, stay, paw”, and can even use the doggy door! I’m a Shiba Inu mix, and I don’t shed. I’m a total even tempered little love bug. I just want to follow my mommy around the house, give kisses, and bury my little nose in her belly when she pets me. I’m such a sweetie pie, I get along with everyone. I love kitty cats, children, and other dogs.

Whoever decides to adopt or foster me will need to know that I am a diabetic. That means I get an insulin shot in the morning and at night. Sheltered Paws will cover medical costs for a new foster, or will supply a years worth of insulin for an adopter (it’s not that expensive, really).

Thanks for thinking of a rescue dog!!

Why Adoption is a Great Option

Lucky, a Cincinnati Shiba Inu dog was adopted! Here's how you can benefit by looking at adoption as an option to buying a Shiba Inu for sale in Cincinnati, or seeking a Shiba Inu dog from a breeder in Cincinnati.

  1. Rescues and shelter volunteers in Cincinnati already know the personality and tendencies of their pets. This means they can match you with the right pet. That will makes it much easier transition to owning a pet for yourself and your new pet.
  2. On average adoption fees are much less than you'd pay a Cincinnati breeder, or pet store. Plus most often rescue pets have already been to the veterinarian for a check-up, had a round of vaccinations, and are spayed or neutered. That is a lot of savings!
  3. You will become a hero, and give a needy dog or cat a loving home. In fact, there are even Shiba Inu breeders who help with Shiba Inu rescue. One puppy or kitten adopted in Cincinnati paves the way for another one to be saved.
