My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

**Please read*** She is fostered in Richmond VA

We have very specific requirements for Maggie, She is on a strict raw diet to manage her food allergies. She eats a home made diet of fresh venison and split pea - if you can not cook for her, do not apply for her. You can not buy a fresh venison diet in the store - you will have to know some hunters. No over the counter treats - ever, no bully sticks, bones, pigs ears or milk bones. We haven't spent thousands getting her healthy so someone can put her back where we started. She also has seasonal allergies and may eventually require medication. She requires a canine dermatologist. She is currently a patient at Veterinary Dermatology of Richmond (http://vavetderm.com/)
***please read her entire bio before applying***

Maggie is a wonderful girl. She is an adult blue American Bully/American Staffordshire Terrier with cropped ears. She looks tough but she’s a mush. She’s a wonderful wonderful dog that has never met a stranger and has handled all situations in her life with grace and dignity. She’s had lots of litters before and is ready to be someone’s princess to pamper. She's mellow, confident and outgoing. She loves people but not oppressively so. She is fantastic out in a crowd and loves PetsMart, she travels in the car wonderfully. She’s a super snuggler, she will come and get close and rest her head on your chest or flop onto her back. She is a super gal. She is good on and off leash.

Good with kids, cats and other dogs. Lived in a home for a short while with a 4 year old and they were best buddies. Crate trained and housebroken. Respects a baby gate.  Very mellow in the house. Can play fetch all day. She is a HOUSE PET, she wants to be inside with the family at all times. She likes to play in the yard but only when she has her family with her. She is not for the “active outdoors” family. She is for the couch potato that wants to stroll around the park occasionally. She does not do well in heat as it aggravates her allergies and she doesn’t like the cold - she prefers fall and spring and gets a little more pep in her step during both seasons. She truly can’t stand to be outside unless it involves a game of fetch and with fetch she will run herself ragged when normally she wants to expend as little energy as possible.

An excellent first time pit bull.  Very low exercise requirement, she'a couch potato. Would be great for an older person to take on walks in the evening. She’s a stroller, she likes to take a nice leisurely walk, nothing too strenuous. She will pull initially in excitement to be going somewhere but then settles down to a meander very quickly. And we do mean meander, she’s not a speed walker..... She’s a social butterfly and likes to stop say hi to everyone she meets and gets disappointed if they don’t stop to say hi back. She’s a wonderful breed ambassador. Despite her mature age, we feel she would make an excellent candidate for therapy work. She truly loves people. She loves to go for rides in the car and will get into any car that has a door open.

She’s been bounced around a bit, neglected and used for breeding before she came into rescue. She has been treated for her skin, spayed and had laser surgery on her ears to remove scar tissue from years of untreated yeast and ear infections. She is now beautiful and healthy.

Maggie and other pets: Maggie gets along with other dogs, she seems to enjoy some social time with friendly dogs of both sexes. She however does not really feel all that comfortable living in a home with multiple dogs. She prefers her people over other pets and really likes to soak up all of the attention herself. She's wonderful with children and other small pets.

We would like her to enjoy being pampered.

Please keep in mind that we are a foster based rescue only. There is no facility where these dogs can be visited prior to application approval as they are all in private homes. This is for both the safety of our foster homes and our dogs. Please take a minute to fill out the adoption application if you are interested in one of our dogs. We also do not place our pit bulls in homes with dogs of the same gender. We adopt as single dogs or to homes with dogs of the opposite gender only. We appreciate breed experience.
