My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

ALSO SEE ME HERE!

Description: Basie is looking for that special someone to mend his broken heart. As a young dog, he was part of a loving family that included children, but then a divorce broke up his happy home. He stayed with his “mom” but eventually she became too ill to care for him and he went to live with “dad,” who later surrendered him to MWCR. Basie loves people of all genders and sizes, but he was particularly bonded to his female owner and would love to find that perfect human to spend his golden years with.

Basie is a senior boy who has been an ideal houseguest since arriving at his foster home. He is perfectly housetrained and can be left alone without any fear of destructiveness. He doesn’t need to be crated, but because he is frightened of thunderstorms, his foster mom sometimes puts him in a crate, wearing his Thundershirt, when a storm threatens. This secure environment seems to help him feel safe during those scary storms. Basie walks nicely on his leash, is quiet and obedient, knows his name and will sit on command. He is a good boy who wants nothing more than to please and be near the humans that he loves.

Basie has lived with children, but would prefer a quiet, adult home during his retirement years. Visiting children would be fine as long as they understood that a mature gentleman like Basie won’t want to rough house with them. His foster home includes other dogs of varying sizes and ages, plus several kitties, all of whom get along fine with Basie. Although he rarely barks, he will sometimes cheer on the other dogs when they are playing; then, if they become too boisterous, he will head for the bedroom to take a peaceful afternoon snooze. The resident cats seem to realize that he means them no harm and will lie still and let him sniff them.

Basie’s idea of heaven is to lie beside his person and be stroked. When he meets a stranger, he is immediately beside him, nudging him with his head and pleading for attention. He is a gentle, quiet, easy going soul who just wants to be loved.

Basie’s ideal forever home should be a quiet, low key environment where someone will be home with him much of the time, particularly during thunderstorms. He should not be left outdoors alone without a fence, because he will wander off in search of someone to pet him. Also, like many older folks, he does not want to have to negotiate lots of stairs or obstacles in his day to day life. Basie is a sweet, sweet boy who is ready to once again give his heart to that special person who will love him forever.
