My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Leyna is hearing impaired and MUST have traditional fencing and a canine companion
Leyna is a one year old (DOB - 10/27/10) deaf merlequin female weighing in at around 100 lbs and counting. Leyna is one of the smartest and sweetest Dane puppies I have had the pleasure of knowing. She is a very social little girl and has been sweet to each person she has come into contact with. She greets strangers at the pet store with tail wags and leans. Leyna knows every person she meets will pet her and if they think they won't she will lay her head on their arm and give them a pitiful look until they just have to give in. Leyna has shown interest in counter surfing however food has been left out and she has not touched it after being told to leave it. Leyna has been in her current foster home for two and a half weeks. In that time she has learned signs for and successfully listens to the following: Sit, Down, Leave it, Take it, Shake, Off, Play, and Stop Playing (which is by far not her favorite.) It is important for everyone in Leyna's forever home be consistent with her training. Leyna has a stubborn streak and will attempt to pretend not to know what you want her to do... don't be fooled... keep asking until you get it. She knows what your asking for and she is testing you! This is a very intelligent girl. Once she learns new tricks she will be happy to randomly do them when she knows you have snacks for her to see if she can earn one! She was originally an owner give up. After an encounter with another dog in her original foster home, probably due to Leyna guarding a bone or a toy, she was moved to a new foster home. Leyna is good with other dogs but wants to play all the time. if Leyna has a canine companion it will need to be one that loves to play and is not going to care if Leyna guards toys or bones. In her foster home, Leyna has a "guard pile". She collects things that are important to her, stuffies, toys and bones. She has not had a problem with the humans taking these items only other dogs. Leyna will follow her humans from room to room. She has separation anxiety and does not do well if left alone. She has jumped through car barriers and over desks and furniture to get to her family. She waits for her humans to come back into a room by licking doors and jumping at them. When they do return she is so excited she jumps on them. Her foster family is trying to teach her to greet people with her paws firmly on the ground. She would REALLY like to be in a home where one of her people can be with her all the time. She is currently going to work with her foster mom everyday. Leyna is working on learning a crate is a safe place to be. She will go in a crate, sleep in a crate and let you close the door for 20-30 minutes if you are in visible site. She will let you walk out of site for a brief second. if you leave her longer than that she will make every attempt to get out of the crate without regard for harming herself. Leyna likes to travel in the car and is trying to learn her manners while traveling. She wants to play with the other cars on the road. She wants to play with the guinea pigs in the pet store and will play bow at them. Leyna is a very fun, sweet, intelligent loving girl. Her only wish is that her forever home will find her soon. She is working hard in her foster home to polish her manners up and promises to keep working hard with her forever home if they promise to keep working with her and not give up on her! Leyna has A LOT of love in her little heart to share... is your family ready to share your hearts with this sweet girl?
