FRED's Story...
One Sunday morning, Fred's "Godmother Marilyn" found him running on a deserted street in downtown Houston, dragging a heavy metal chain around his neck. He had deviantly made his break for freedom, but looked so pitiful running away, but with no place to go. Marilyn was able to get hold of his chain and brought him to True Blue Friends. We were instantly charmed by Fred, named after Fred Astaire, of course, because he had this cute little gait and seemed to be dancing or, when still, posed with his short little legs and knock knees in "Ballet Position One."

Fred is very striking in his brindle coat and loves to hear compliments on how is the cutest hound dog anyone has ever seen! He has a great personality, very full of life and fun to be with. We enjoyed taking him to our weekend adoption events but Fred did not like to be crated, or confined, in any way. He seemed to be telling us, "Please don't take me back to my early, lonely days of life on a chain. So, Fred, now about 3 years old, and weighing about 50 pounds, has had the run of our backyard, and loves playing and "dancing" with the other dogs but, we know in his heart, he would love to have a family of his very own, preferably with a female dog. Fred will be making a special appearance at this Tuesday's Rice U Farmer's Market, OctoberFest, still hoping to find "Ginger".

Why Adoption is a Great Option

FRED, a Houston Basset Hound/Labrador Retriever dog was adopted! Here's how you can benefit by looking at adoption as an option to buying a Basset Hound/Labrador Retriever for sale in Houston, or seeking a Basset Hound/Labrador Retriever dog from a breeder in Houston.

  1. Rescues and shelter volunteers in Houston already know the personality and tendencies of their pets. This means they can match you with the right pet. That will makes it much easier transition to owning a pet for yourself and your new pet.
  2. On average adoption fees are much less than you'd pay a Houston breeder, or pet store. Plus most often rescue pets have already been to the veterinarian for a check-up, had a round of vaccinations, and are spayed or neutered. That is a lot of savings!
  3. You will become a hero, and give a needy dog or cat a loving home. In fact, there are even Basset Hound/Labrador Retriever breeders who help with Basset Hound/Labrador Retriever rescue. One puppy or kitten adopted in Houston paves the way for another one to be saved.
