Sierra came to us very thin with two kittens. We thought she had an URI infection but when we took her to the vet we discovered she had a herniated Diaphragm. It was a very risky surgery for an adult cat but she was too wonderful not to give her a second chance. She not only survived the surgery she hasn`t stopped purring since she came out of surgery. She is now healthy, has gained weight and is now out in the big cat area socializing with the rest of the felines. Sierra is such a love! Who would not want her? Even though her surgery was a complete success it has brought on some minor emotional issues with Sierra. Quick movements and noise bother her since her surgery, and she does not like perfume or heavy cologne because it bothers her chest. Her body still gets achy sometimes. She feels as if she took the world on her shoulders having a litter of kittens when she was so ill herself. She would love a QUIET, SERENE home. She is not high maintenance but would love someone to spend quality time with her. We give her vitamins to keep her skin and coat healthy. Sierra is vaccinated, FeLuke/FIV tested neg., De-Wormed, and Spayed. If you`ll like to visit with her please call and set up an appointment. Our organization offers 24PetWatch microchips, which include free registration into the 24PetWatch pet recovery service. For more information visit or call 1-866-597-2424. This pet also is eligible for 30 days of pre-paid ShelterCare pet health insurance. For more information please visit or call 1-866-375-PETS.

About Friends of Michigan Animal Rescue

About Our Shelter...

FMAR is a non-profit 501(c)3 rescue for dogs and cats that started in April 2003 with the help and support of hundreds of wonderful people. Our mission is to protect animals and residents by promoting a healthy and safe enviornment for all. FMAR felt we needed to start in our own community helping our Animal Control facility find homes for the strays they pick up or are brought to them. On a rare occassion when we have extra space we do our best to help out neighboring communities too. We started in the family room of our home, adding kennels under and on the pool table and moving to the dining and livingroom. We grew by leaps and bounds, so we sold our home, bought a 61/2 acre farm and renovated the smaller of the 2 barns with 9 dog kennels and 5 unique cat kennels. Our first renovation allowed us to house a larger number of cats and dogs, but the need grew faster than our space would allow. We are amazed and saddened every day by the abundance of homeless pets and hoped to raise enough money to renovate our larger barn, but the need became so great we knew we had to find something smaller that we could better afford to renovate. We added on again but the space was still not enough. We found someone to donate another barn and had this barn moved to our property and renovated it as our new "Cat Haven".
Please visit our website at for more details on our growth and progress. We promise the best is yet to come!!

Our Adoption Process...

FMAR is an no-kill 501 C 3 tax-exempt all breed rescue, and like you, we are concerned about the welfare of the animals and the families that adopt them. We will require paperwork to be filled out and a consultation before an animal is adopted. Interaction with any other animals in your care is also required. We reserve the right to deny any adoption that we feel is not safe or comfortable for either the animal or potential adopter.
Our adoption costs vary, and include first set of vaccinations and spay/neuter. Cats and kittens start at $75 and dogs and puppies range from $100 - $175 depending on age, size and breed. We also offer micro chips at a very reasonable rate. For more information please send us an email at:
