Gertie's Story...
Gertie is an amazingly sweet 2 year old dog that looks like Australian Cattle Dog, but she is very tiny. Gertie is about the size of a large Chihuahua, and as you can see from her photos, she has pointy ears and the color markings of a Cattle Dog/Blue Heeler. Gertie was found as a stray between Rose Creek and Lyle MN. Gertie doesn’t interact a whole lot with the other Shelter dogs and she’d prefer to nuzzle up into that area between your shoulders and your neck. In our Shelter, Gertie resides in a kennel pen for 23 hours a day, so it makes it hard for us to know if she is housetrained or not. Her prospective home should plan on doing some housetraining work just to be sure. Gertie is current with vaccinations and will be spayed very soon. Her adoption fee is $95. We utilize a short adoption application form to assess compatibility between dogs and their prospective homes. This form is a simple one-sided Microsoft Word document and it can be e-mailed to you upon request. If you would like to receive the form via e-mail, or if you have any other questions, please send us an e-mail message.

Why Adoption is a Great Option

Gertie, a Austin Australian Cattle Dog/Chihuahua dog was adopted! Here's how you can benefit by looking at adoption as an option to buying a Australian Cattle Dog/Chihuahua for sale in Austin, or seeking a Australian Cattle Dog/Chihuahua dog from a breeder in Austin.

  1. Rescues and shelter volunteers in Austin already know the personality and tendencies of their pets. This means they can match you with the right pet. That will makes it much easier transition to owning a pet for yourself and your new pet.
  2. On average adoption fees are much less than you'd pay a Austin breeder, or pet store. Plus most often rescue pets have already been to the veterinarian for a check-up, had a round of vaccinations, and are spayed or neutered. That is a lot of savings!
  3. You will become a hero, and give a needy dog or cat a loving home. In fact, there are even Australian Cattle Dog/Chihuahua breeders who help with Australian Cattle Dog/Chihuahua rescue. One puppy or kitten adopted in Austin paves the way for another one to be saved.
