My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

If you are looking for a sweet, playful, loving, and easy to handle boy, then Jake just might be the dog for you.

Jake and his brother and sister were found wandering the streets of Sacramento, along with their mom who was a papillon. When we tried to capture them, Jake was more than happy to comply, tail wagging!

Jake is about 1 year old and weighs around 20 pounds. He is house trained and crate trained. We know his mom was a papillon and are assuming at the corgi mix because of his long body and short legs, traits that he shares with his sister and brother.

He loves playing with his brother and the other foster dogs, but even more so he loves working on his mad lap dog skills. He wants to be the best cuddling lap dog ever. Combined, of course, with his ability to keep tabs on his humans by accompanying them from room to room. Another favorite pass time is gazing at you adoringly with his soulful eyes.

Jake is playful but not at all overly energetic. Introduced properly he gets along well with both large and small dogs. He currently is staying with a 7-pound chiweenie, his 20-pound brother, and a 50-pound Formosan Mountain dog. He also lives with the foster mom’s cats but has a tendency to bark at them and try to get them to play, which they do not appreciate, so they are kept in a different part of the house. With time and patience, Jake may be able to live with a cat/cats without upsetting them, but he is not at that state currently, and might be best suited to a home without cats.

If Jake had to choose between his furry friends and people, I believe people would win, hands down. Jake has played well with the neighbor’s 8 year old boy and teenage girl. He enjoys curling up next to you on the couch and settles in to watch your favorite show. He also likes snuggling in bed. He bonds to his human very quickly and very deeply and is really quite the velcro dog.

Jake rides really well in the car, at times having to be gently reminded he can ride shotgun, but not claim the driver’s seat. He is especially well behaved on walks and stays at a perfect heal without even being told.

Jake is currently being fostered in SACRAMENTO. Please send an email to request an adoption application if you are interested in meeting or adopting him. There is a $225 tax deductable adoption fee which helps to pay for all of our rescued dogs’ medical expenses. Elwood is neutered, micro chipped, tested negative for heartworms, current on shots, flea and heartworm medications. A home check will be required to ensure that he goes to an environment best suited for him.
