BELLA's Story...
"Bella" a/k/a "Bella GG" or "Garage Girl" is an inquisitive and alert two year-old lab/beagle/border collie mix found by an animal lover who heard her panting coming from under the truck in his garage. Lured out by food and water, the frightened and exhausted lost 40 pound pup slept for most of the next three days. Once revived, her foster family discovered they had a little "Nancy Drew" in their midst. "Detective Bella" thoroughly checked out her new surroundings, room by room. She even sniffed every scented candle at her eye level. (Lavender, from the Rice U Farmer's Market, was her favorite:-). Outdoors Bella, like Nancy, continues to look for "clues," content to sit quietly, watching everything; even leaves falling from the trees fascinate her while she listens to the sounds of birds, squirrels, sprinklers, lawn mowers and neighbors chatting. She is great in the car and looks intently out the window, wondering "Why is that person in the other car, at the stoplight, laughing at me?" Cute as a cupcake and graceful as a deer when she runs, Bella is a happy little girl with a sweet spirit and zest for life, reminding her foster mom that happiness is about appreciation. Bella is grateful for all the small things in her life from watching the sun rise and set to getting a belly rub, to doing a good "sit" and waiting for a pat and a treat. She is house trained, learns quickly and is eager to please but still puppy-like in her energy and enthusiasm. Bella would be eternally grateful to find a Carolyn Keene with patience and understanding about her curiosity and instincts to explore everything around her and to grant her unconditional love. Bella is currently recovering from heartworm treatment so will not be at this week's Rice University Farmer's Market, but please come by, between 4-7pm, and schedule a home visit with our four-legged Nancy Drew - "Bella".

Why Adoption is a Great Option

BELLA, a Houston Labrador Retriever/Border Collie dog was adopted! Here's how you can benefit by looking at adoption as an option to buying a Labrador Retriever/Border Collie for sale in Houston, or seeking a Labrador Retriever/Border Collie dog from a breeder in Houston.

  1. Rescues and shelter volunteers in Houston already know the personality and tendencies of their pets. This means they can match you with the right pet. That will makes it much easier transition to owning a pet for yourself and your new pet.
  2. On average adoption fees are much less than you'd pay a Houston breeder, or pet store. Plus most often rescue pets have already been to the veterinarian for a check-up, had a round of vaccinations, and are spayed or neutered. That is a lot of savings!
  3. You will become a hero, and give a needy dog or cat a loving home. In fact, there are even Labrador Retriever/Border Collie breeders who help with Labrador Retriever/Border Collie rescue. One puppy or kitten adopted in Houston paves the way for another one to be saved.
