Aussie's Story...
Aussie is a very interactive, people-oriented Citron Cockatoo (Lesser Sulphur Crested). She can be very quiet for the most part. But, if she is ignored too long, she will scream. She had been the only bird in the same home for 16 years and would still be there if her family hadn't lost their home. Because of this, Aussie has had difficulty transitioning to multi-bird homes. We believe she will do best as a single bird in a home with large bird experience.

Aussie talks and loves to ask, "What cha doing?" and say, "Hello." She will dance for you to entice you to pick her up. She LOVES attention. But she can also play independently. Aussie enjoys dancing and laughing, and she really likes to watch YouTube videos of other Cockatoos. She especially loves to eat grapes, bananas, mixed veggies, pizza, and pasta.

Aussie LOVES showers and knows what "shower time" means; she never misses a chance to get wet. She also loves to chew up cardboard boxes and shred phone books. One of her favorite pastimes is whittling tree branches. She likes to make back/chin scratchers out of them! Aussie does seem to prefer women, and we believe she would do best if kept by a woman. She requires a lot of attention to be at her happiest.

Aussie's approximate hatch date is 1992, and her adoption fee is $200.

Why Adoption is a Great Option

Aussie, a St. Louis Cockatoo was adopted! Here's how you can benefit by looking at adoption as an option to buying a Cockatoo for sale in St. Louis, or seeking a Cockatoo from a breeder in St. Louis.

  1. Rescues and shelter volunteers in St. Louis already know the personality and tendencies of their pets. This means they can match you with the right pet. That will makes it much easier transition to owning a pet for yourself and your new pet.
  2. On average adoption fees are much less than you'd pay a St. Louis breeder, or pet store. Plus most often rescue pets have already been to the veterinarian for a check-up, had a round of vaccinations, and are spayed or neutered. That is a lot of savings!
  3. You will become a hero, and give a needy dog or cat a loving home. In fact, there are even Cockatoo breeders who help with Cockatoo rescue. One puppy or kitten adopted in St. Louis paves the way for another one to be saved.
