My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Description: Whoever coined the phrase about the best things coming in small packages must have had Schatzie in mind. Although he only weighs 42 pounds, he has the personality of a much bigger boy! He is a happy, playful little dog whose search for adventure is what ultimately brought him to MWCR. He had wandered away from his original home several times and each time was picked up by animal control. His owner claimed him on more than one occasion, but eventually decided to surrender him to us.

Schatzie is a clever, well behaved boy who knows a variety of commands including “come,” “sit,” “down,” “stay,” “shake” and “high five.” He is fully house trained and lets his family know when he needs to go outside by sitting at the door. He is also crate trained, but with his good manners, there is really no need to crate him. Schatzie walks well on his leash, rides nicely in the car and is tolerant of grooming. He likes to encourage his foster family to play with him by bringing them one of his favorite toys.

Schatzie is good with children and would enjoy having one or more kids to play with. He is indifferent to cats and is a bit slow to warm up to other dogs. He is food aggressive with dogs and can be dominant, so he would be happiest as an only dog or with a dog that would let Schatzie have the alpha role. Although he is somewhat shy with strangers, he warms up quickly and loves attention.

Schatzie is a fun-loving collie who will make a wonderful addition to any family. He has the energy and playfulness to be a great companion to children and active adults, but is beyond the chewing, destructive, “puppy” stage. He will definitely need a fenced yard to prevent him from wandering off in search of adventure. Anyone who is looking for a smaller dog with a really big personality will be charmed by Schatzie.
