After 7 loyal years Nikita’s owner’s moved to a condo and didn’t take him along.

Nikita needs to lose about 10-15lbs, he is very over weight due to a poor diet and lack of exercise. His previous owner’s idea of exercise was to leave him in the back yard to amuse himself and exercise himself…we can tell by the calluses on his elbows he did a whole ton more snoozing then exercising. We’d like to see him closer to about 70lbs. He is more of a shorter, stockier build and isn’t ever going to be a very thin dog but he should drop a few extra pounds and “muscle up” with a proper diet and exercise.

When he first arrived Nikita was nervous and unsure, he was just waiting for his people to come back. He was leery of strangers and was not very excited when meeting people. He has now settled in nicely and is a great watch dog but happy to meet the new people that come visit. He is very loyal and obeys his foster mom. He usually greets her in the morning by rolling over for a belly rub. He seems to be getting along with other mellow dogs and would be a good companion for another laid back dog, he isn’t a fan of young dogs and dogs without manners that have a tendency to “get in his face”. He has not lived with cats and should go to a feline free home. He is also find with respectful children and has lived with respectful children. Nikita is a friendly guy but isn’t what we’d consider a typical Lab in that he doesn’t need to meet every single passer-byer, he is happy just sticking with his family, he is a decent watch dog and barks when there are strangers around or entering the home, he settles and sniffs a stranger but doesn’t need immediate attention from them. Nikita LOVES car rides and is always trying to get in to open car doors regardless of who’s vehicle it is. Nikita needs a good brisk walk each day, the more exercise the better to help him shed the spare pounds. He prefers leash walks or walks in a quiet fenced off leash area, he isn’t much of a dog park dog. He loves nothing more than to just be with his family. He is house trained and crate trained and is fine given free roam of the home when alone. Nikita is happy to curl up on a big dog bed in the living room while you watch tv or hop in the car for a drive to the cottage. He is the perfect companion for a more relaxed home that can give him time to settle and warm up to his new life. Nikita is best suited to a house with a fenced yard but we will consider the right people in an apartment.
