Little Buddy is a sweet and gentle guy who came to Tree House in July 2011 as a 4- month-old kitten. When he was admitted, he had a sore on the left side of his neck that we thought may be a bite wound from another animal. However, we soon discovered it was a Cuterebra parasite that had taken up residence under his skin. This worm-like larva uses small animals as hosts and lives under their skin for about a month until it wriggles out and hatches into a fly. Luckily, the wound that it left on Little Buddy’s neck wasn’t too severe, and we were able to treat him with warm compresses and antibiotics.
Since his Cuterebra incident, Little Buddy has battled Ascarids (an intestinal parasite also known as roundworms), as well as eye and upper-respiratory infections. After being given another course of antibiotics along with eye medicine, Little Buddy is finally in tip-top shape. He recently moved to our adoption floor where he can be seen running around our Pine Room with the other adoptable Tree House kittens.
Although Little Buddy has had a rough life so far, he’s a courageous and loving boy. He’s fought his physical ailments and taken his medication like a trooper. Even though he’s shy at first, once you start petting him, he’ll jump into your lap, make happy paws, and purr, purr, purr. And if you try to set him down and walk away, he’ll jump back into your lap and roll onto his back, wanting more love and belly rubs. Now that Little Buddy has conquered his health issues, all he needs is a home of his own.
