Louisiana Lou's Story...
Available Soon
Louisiana Lou is a 2 year old male German Shepherd who was picked up by animal control who found him tied up by his leash at a dog park. He is a tall lanky boy who needs to put on a few pounds.

Lou recently moved to a foster home. He slept uncrated on his first night and so far appears to be house trained. He is living with a dominant female GSD and does great with her. In his first ride over mountain roads he did well riding crated in a truck and did not have any problems.

Lou knows sit and lay down. He has a strong food drive and loves playing with toys and chasing a ball. He sometimes brings toys back and at other times wants to play keep-away, but its evident that he wants to engage with the person who throws the object. He will rest on his mat with a toy in his mouth so he is ready to go play at a moments notice.

Lou can have a hard mouth when taking treats and will counter surf. We are working on both these issues and he seems to be learning quickly. He otherwise has fairly good manners inside the house. At his previous foster home he did fine meeting a 2 year old and 4 year old, he seemed to like the children and there were no issues. The children were not allowed to give him treats however because of his hard mouth when taking treats.

His play style with his foster sibling is rough and tumble. He has run openly with other confident dogs (both male and females) on several occasions in a large yard, and did well. He met the new dogs appropriately, and when he played too rough and they scolded him, he took the warning well. He would love to go to a home with another dog but it will need to be one that can handle his type of play.

He is a level 3 dog who is living at a foster home in La Honda.

Why Adoption is a Great Option

Louisiana Lou, a Fresno German Shepherd Dog dog was adopted! Here's how you can benefit by looking at adoption as an option to buying a German Shepherd Dog for sale in Fresno, or seeking a German Shepherd Dog dog from a breeder in Fresno.

  1. Rescues and shelter volunteers in Fresno already know the personality and tendencies of their pets. This means they can match you with the right pet. That will makes it much easier transition to owning a pet for yourself and your new pet.
  2. On average adoption fees are much less than you'd pay a Fresno breeder, or pet store. Plus most often rescue pets have already been to the veterinarian for a check-up, had a round of vaccinations, and are spayed or neutered. That is a lot of savings!
  3. You will become a hero, and give a needy dog or cat a loving home. In fact, there are even German Shepherd Dog breeders who help with German Shepherd Dog rescue. One puppy or kitten adopted in Fresno paves the way for another one to be saved.
