Buford's Story...
Hi, my name is Buford. My new foster mom calls me Benny. I was picked up by animal control in Tallahassee and my first foster mom rescued me and took me home. I had a severe case of dermatitis and an open sore on my back. She took very good care of me and gave me baths. The sore went away after a couple of weeks and I started to feel better. Recently I moved to the Tampa Bay area because the vet says I have heartworms and the treatment is more affordable here. It will take about three months for my initial treatment and then the vet will decide the next step to take. Since I saw the vet in Tampa, I am also getting antibiotics and more baths for my dermatitis. I have limited vision because my dry eyes had gone untreated. I will need drops in both eyes for the rest of my life and I am learning to sit still while they are put in.

My foster mom thinks I was left outside for most of my life. She says that’s very bad for pugs and could be the reason I have heartworms. I am not housebroken but I’m working hard to be better about taking my business outside. Sometimes I forget but my foster mom hasn’t given up on me yet. She says it will take patience and time. Maybe by the time I am done with my heartworm treatment, I will have learned what I need to do outside. I get along with other dogs and don’t ever fight or show any sign of aggression. I haven’t learned to take turns when getting treats so it’s a good thing the other dogs are tolerant of me because I try to grab their treats also. I am crate trained. I love to play with toys, give kisses and be near humans. My tail wags even when I am eating and drinking water. I have lots of energy but I am also a laid back kind of a guy. I am happy to curl up beside you on the couch or on the floor by your feet. I love, love, love to eat and get treats. If you think I would be a perfect match for you, please fill out the adoption papers today!

Our Adoption Process...
Our Adoption Application is found at our website.

Thank you for your interest in adopting a pug with the Pug Rescue of Florida! We are very excited that you are taking the time to help one of our many dogs find a forever home.

Filling out an application is a must and first step to adoption with us. Please read carefully below as there is helpful information about our application and adoption process. Also please note, that we are all volunteers. If for some reason you have not been contacted as soon as you wished, please do not think this is a reflection on your application, but a mere part of the process as our volunteers are all working as fast as we can. We promise, we will get back to you via e-mail, on the phone, or via mail and let you know the status of your application, if you are or are not a candidate for adoption of a rescue pug, and the next step(s) in the process, if applicable.

You can expect the process to take up to 2 weeks (sometimes longer) from receipt of application to the adoption of your dog, depending on the availability of pugs and whether or not a pug you are interested in is ready to be adopted (if on medical hold).

Available Pugs: You will find our available pugs by clicking here. All pugs, whether on medical hold or not, are available for adoption. This section of the site is a guide to help you in finding your perfect match. Please take the time to read each dogs profile, as this is the best way to know which particular pug is best for your home. If you do not see a match at the time being, please fill out an application, as we constantly get dogs in and may match exactly what you are looking for.

Pug Puppies: Yes, puppies are cute and adorable. However, we rarely have surrendered puppies. If a puppy does become available, all applications will be reviewed and the puppy will go to the home PROoF feels is best to take on such a handful. Thank you for understanding.

Completing an Adoption Application: All adoption applications are subject to acceptance based on a review process that may require collecting information from references and visiting the applicant’s home. All decisions on placing dogs in adoptive and foster homes are based solely on the judgment of the volunteers and coordinators of PROoF. To apply to adopt a pug complete the application below and email, fax or snail mail it to the following:
