My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

This is Madison, a 14 month old fawn female with natural ears. Looking into the face of this sweet little girl, you would never know that she had spent the first 10 months of her young life locked in a basement with little to no human contact. That was followed by 2+ months in a kennel for the SPCA while her case worked it's way through the court system. Thankfully, that's all behind her now. Miraculously, she doesn't seem to carry any of that with her. She is full of fun and enjoys every moment of her new life. She's a little shy when she first meets someone new, but that lasts only moments before she is looking for hugs and kisses. She loves being with people and is VERY active outside and runs full throttle for as long as she is out. Maddie really enjoys playing with her foster brother, a Saint Bernard who's a little bit older then her, and a 2 year old female Bloodhound who comes to visit often. The 3 of them are something to watch! When she comes inside, she's all cuddles and wants to be wherever you are. Maddie is housebroken and crate trained and knows her commands "sit" and "down". We're still working on "stay" and "shake". She loves to go for walks, but is still learning not to pull. Maddie is not thrilled with her Gentle Leader so her foster home has been switching between that and a regular collar. She is startled by loud trucks or cars that may go by, but with a little reassurance she continues with her walk. Maddie prefers when her big brother, a 6 year old Dane, goes with her for a walk as she is more at ease walking with another dog. Maddie loves to go for a ride in the car and will lay down in the back. She is also crazy for ANY type of toy and will gladly share with her siblings. She has just discovered counter surfing so we are working on discouraging her from doing that. There is no cat in her household but she chases everything in the yard and shows too much interest in the bunny that she lives with. Even though Maddie is 14 months old now, because she has never had a "puppy hood," so she is going through that now. Think terrible two's! When told "no" she will "talk back" with a rumble get into a play bow position and run away. It's comical to watch! Maddie is great fun and will be a wonderful addition to a Dane savvy household that will enjoy her great joy at being free. Because she is so energetic, Maddie needs to go to a home with a large dog who likes to play as much as she does to work off her boundless energy. Since there is no history of her living with children and her high energy level she'll only be placed with children 10 years and older.
