Sesame's Story...
When Sesame's former owner lost his job and housing, Sesame found herself at age thirteen with no place to live and no prospects. We took her in and found that her medical needs had been neglected for quite some time. She was severely underweight and had terrible teeth, a coat so matted that she required a complete body shave, and nails untrimmed for so long that they had grown into her toe pads. Sesame must have been so uncomfortable, yet she immediately responded to any bit of attention with endless purring and head butts. Once all her medical issues were resolved, Sesame went to an ARCF foster home to rest and recover.

We discovered that Sesame has a very spunky personality, and she appears to be part Maine Coon. Look at her gorgeous face! And she has enormous feet with big fluffs between her toes. She adores all people, and loves nothing more than being combed, petted, and fussed over. If you haven't pet her quite enough, she will reach out one of those gigantic paws and gently pull your arm back in her direction. We have to admit, when she is being combed, she purrs herself into such happiness that she tends to drool a bit! She's not crazy about other cats, but has learned to coexist with the resident cats in her foster home.

Sesame is very fond of her heated bed, her meal times, and a bit of gentle play every day. She asks for very little else, and in return provides calm, devoted companionship. Although she is a lady “of a certain age”, her health is good, she has no special dietary needs, and she is 100% litter box compliant. She doesn't scratch the furniture, climb the curtains, dash for the open door, or stay up all night talking to the moon. Sesame is looking for a peaceful home where she can be properly adored as someone's one and only special girl. Please fill out our I'm Interested form if you're ready to make this girl your own.

Sesame, like all ARCF cats for adoption, has been spayed, microchipped, is up to date on vaccines, and has tested negative for FeLV and FIV.

If you are interested in meeting Sesame, please fill out the "I'm interested" form at our website, and our adoption coordinator will respond promptly. Please note that we place cats in the following counties only: Multnomah, Washington, Clackamas and Clark.

Animal Rescue & Care Fund, Inc. is a small rescue organization. We rescue homeless animals only, and do not accept owner-surrendered pets. Why Adoption is a Great Option

Sesame, a Portland Maine Coon cat was adopted! Here's how you can benefit by looking at adoption as an option to buying a Maine Coon for sale in Portland, or seeking a Maine Coon cat from a breeder in Portland.

  1. Rescues and shelter volunteers in Portland already know the personality and tendencies of their pets. This means they can match you with the right pet. That will makes it much easier transition to owning a pet for yourself and your new pet.
  2. On average adoption fees are much less than you'd pay a Portland breeder, or pet store. Plus most often rescue pets have already been to the veterinarian for a check-up, had a round of vaccinations, and are spayed or neutered. That is a lot of savings!
  3. You will become a hero, and give a needy dog or cat a loving home. In fact, there are even Maine Coon breeders who help with Maine Coon rescue. One puppy or kitten adopted in Portland paves the way for another one to be saved.
