My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Bean is an adorable little dog that weighs just 7 lbs. He is not a purse-dog however and can keep up with the big boys. He is a very sturdy little dog that is playful, intelligent and very affectionate with his person. He is just 7 months old and doesn't know any commands but he is a total companion dog that is very devoted and loyal.

Bean is slowly learning to trust people and although he will run up to strangers for a pet, he likes it on his own terms. He is suspicious of anyone that tries to corner him and really only likes being picked up by his own people. Once he has an opportunity to give you a sniff and to see that you are not "after" him, he warms up quickly. He is always going to be a dog however that is looking to his person and wanting to be wherever they are. He is dying to be loved and with his special person he is extremely devoted and loving.

Bean is well on his way to being house trained but doesn't really know any commands. His recall is excellent of course as he never wants to get too far away from his person. He gets along well with other dogs and is fine with cats. He likes to play with other dogs but will constantly return to his person to make sure they are still where he left them. He is very cute to watch playing with stuffies and he does not constantly demand your attention. He is very content just to sit at your feet while you are working or watching tv. He does not get up on the furniture unless asked and only sits in your lap when invited. Otherwise he just patiently and quietly waits beside you.

Bean would not be a good pet for a family with children and would do best with a couple or as a single person's companion. He is very animated and happy when with his person and enjoys doing whatever you would like to do. He is currently crated at night in his foster home but only because of other dogs in the home that take precedence but Bean would love someone that would let him sleep in their bed. This little guy needs lots of affection and with the right socialization he will overcome his fear of strangers.

He is a very quiet dog and would do well in an apartment. He is fairly active in the home and would require only a small yard to play in. He has a wiry, east to care for coat and is a pretty little dog. He is fine with dogs of all sizes and does not have any prey-drive behaviours. He was curious of the rabbit in his foster home but is actually more scared of it than anything else.

When he is with people he trusts, Bean is just the most loving, loyal and affectionate pet. He is a little doll and most people want to pet him which is why he really needs someone that will get him out and used to being touched by strangers so he can be taken comfortably anywhere. We have seen a huge difference in him since coming into foster care but it is still a work in progress to get him totally desensitized to new things. Bean definitely needs someone that is confident and who will treat him like a dog and not as a baby. He needs to have confidence in his person so he can face the world unafraid. Given another couple months Bean will be a different dog and once he gains confidence he will be a pet that you can take anywhere. He just needs someone that will love him, will go slow in expectations and who will give him the time to really come into himself. With strangers you just need to let him come to them. Once he bonds with you, he will give you the world. It took his foster mom all of 5 minutes to win his heart.
