My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

1/14/12 - ADOPTION PENDING!

Adoption Fee: $375

Fostered in Kentucky

Age: 4 years

Weight: 10.5 lbs.

11/9/11 - She could be a Duchess and is a Yorkie, so it only fitting that her foster mom named her after the Duchess of York, “Fergie”. Now a little about the newest royalty in the YHR family:

Fergi was somehow brought in as a stray to a local animal control shelter and surprising to us, not claimed. Maybe her owners did not want her anymore, maybe her owners did not know where to look for her at, maybe Fergi prayed that her owners wouldn’t find her and ran away. We aren’t sure, but what we do know is that she is now safe in a YHR foster home working on clearing up her flea issues, seems they set up camp on her backside and refused to move out! Well, flea prevention was a success, the fleas have moved out and, unfortunately, taken some of Fergi’s hair from the hips down with them. However, it is slowly growing back and she is still beautiful.

When Fergi initially entered her foster home, she was a little testy with the other pups, but that is to be expected since she had been through so much. Now that a little time has passed, she seems to be co-existing fine as just yesterday she was admiring her foster siblings playing a game of chase and joined in for about 3 seconds. She even picked up a toy for a few seconds. There is potential there for a party girl.

She has no problem in the eating department and actually should lose at least one pound. Got to keep that royal figure.

Fergi is an absolute doll and loves to be with her humans. She follows her foster mom around everywhere. This may subside when she gets more comfortable, but for now she is a velcro dog. She seems to pick her favorite person and then becomes their shadow. She is a little slow to warm up to new people, who can blame her since she has been on the street, at a shelter and in a new home all in a two week period. That’s a lot even for a high society girl such as Fergi.

She is doing very well on potty training, but we don’t want to get too confident because we all know yorkie’s can be stubborn in this area. But it does seem that she holds it pretty well and goes outside when taken.

She walks well on a leash and harness, can manage getting on the furniture without having to be picked up and ...... listen carefully ..... LOVES kisses. She will put her paws on your shoulders (almost as if holding you down) and give you kisses all over your face. This will go on as long as her human can tolerate it. She is just a lovebug and is thankful to her foster mom for saving her.

Fergi doesn’t mind having a bow put in her hair or being brushed, but she must have had a bad grooming experience in her previous home since she goes all Napoleon when you try to clip her bangs or trim her toenails. Her foster mom is working with her on this. For now, we’ll say she’ll probably be a terror in the grooming department, so a calm, sweet groomer will be a must.

Because of Fergi’s anxiety with having her face and paws touched, a home with small children would not be ideal. Also, she seems to be a bit of a darter, so “watch those open doors”.

We are still learning about Fergi everyday and will post when new personality traits present themselves. In the meantime, if you think your castle is fit for this Dutchess, please fill out an application and her royal staff will be in touch. Fergi apologizes in advance for the ones that don’t get her.

Cheers!!
