My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Lita is a bundle of love in a dog shaped body. All she wants is to be loved. She is very social and friendly with everyone including children of all ages. She is a young adult dog approximately 2 - 3 years old and weighs just over 50 lbs. She would do well in just about any family situation.

Here is what her foster mom had to say about Lita:

Lita is very sociable and friendly with everyone she meets. She is a real sweetheart. She is fine with other animals but will on occasion chase the cats. I am currently crating Lita during the day while I am at work and although she does cry for a bit when she first goes in she has settled nicely by the time I leave. I really don't believe she needs to be crated at all. She does seem to cringe at raised voices and when I was yelling the other day at the cats, (trying to break up a cat fight) she came grovelling up to me with kisses, needing reassurance that I wasn't mad at her. She is not a dog that you would ever need to raise your voice at as she is always trying to do her best to do whatever you ask of her.

She loves playing with my dog and would be fine in a home with another respectful dog. She appears to have a fairly low energy drive and doesn't seem to shed very much at all. She is very quiet in the home and only barks when there is a good reason to. She was a bit fussy with her food when I first brought her home but she is fine now.

She is a slow learner. She seems to be getting the hang of sitting for leash on/off and for treats, but out of that situation it's hit and miss. She does come when called most of the time. It's almost like she doesn't speak English! (This is a very good possibility!) She is fully house trained. Her leash manners are getting better. She can pull when she wants, but she also seems to know how to heel. She does wait when necessary. She is very well behaved overall. She rides nicely in the car.

As I said earlier, she is a bundle of love in a dog shaped body, and she will make a devoted companion. She is very affectionate, but a lot of that seems to be a need for comfort and reassurance. She will jump up sometimes, but she is very gentle, and it is more for a cuddle than anything else. She sleeps very close beside me on the bed, and will use my head as a pillow sometimes if I don't say good night to her. She sits on my feet when I'm at the computer, and is never very far from me wherever I am in the house. It's almost like she has lost everything she ever loved, and needs the comfort of knowing that she is in a forever home and is a valued member of the family. I have daydreamed about how she came to be in the pound – I can imagine her as having had a home, but witnessed a lot of screaming fights and running away. We have been to the dog park several times, and she is respectful of humans and other dogs, and is coming out of her shell and playing nicely with other dogs. She does seem to prefer to play with the younger dogs and puppies. You can see her trying to understand what I'm asking, but the process takes some time! Other than that, she is a really lovely dog.
