Spook's Story...

Adoption Status: AVAILABLE

Gender: Male

Weight: 45 lbs

Breed Estimate: Pit bull

Age Estimate: 5 years

Adoption Fee: Name your own donation

Health Status: Neutered, vaccinated, heartworm tested, dewormed and microchipped.

Interaction with dogs:  Acceptable. Spook is great with all dogs of all shapes and sizes. He loves to wrestle, play, and run. Spook would also do well in a house as the only dog because he enjoys being the main attraction.

Interaction with cats: Spook would do best in a home without cats.

Interaction with children: Acceptable. Spook loves playing with anyone who is willing to play.  He has frequent play sessions with children from his fosters extended family.  Spook absolutely loves running, playing, and chasing.  Spook has learned to play gently with the children, he listens and obeys their commands.  Please note, Thunder’s Angels does not adopt dogs into homes with children under 5 years old.

Activity Level: Average. Spook loves to run, play and wrestle.  His energy is often tempered with regular walks and play sessions.  After a long hike in the woods he loves to curl up and nap.

Leash manners: Acceptable. Spook’s leash manners are improving on a daily basis. He is an excellent walker when he has on his front harness.

Housetraining: Fully housetrained. Spook is new to living in a home so he still occasionally marks in the house.  But he understands he is supposed to go to the bathroom outside and he does will with that most of the time.

Major Personality Traits: Spook is a very silly and funny pup. He absolutely loves staring at himself in the mirror.  Sometimes he trips over his own legs. He loves to chase and bite his own tail like it’s a toy.

Special Needs: None

Amount of additional training needed: Average. Spook is working on his basic commands. In less than a month he has already learned sit, lay down, here, and wait. He is currently learning stay, and watch me. He is doing great on his leash and will barely pulls unless he sees another dogs or person he wants to go play with. Spook will still do well with continued training.  He is also learning to only chew on his toys when he is anxious about being left at home alone.

A word from Spook:

Hello, my name is Spook but my foster mommy calls me Rocky because I love to wrestle, she says I act just Rocky Balboa! I’m originally from West Virginia but I feel like a true Philadelphian now, especially with me nickname.  I first came to Pennsylvania in the middle of a hurricane and I wasn’t found of the wet weather and scary wind. But when my foster mom picked me up she had a really yummy bone for me and that made me feel better. In my foster home I live with two cats and an older female Pit Bull.  Sometimes I try and chase the cats, well actually I only chase one of them because the other one fights back. And I don’t want to fight, I only want to play. I really like Rella, my foster sister, Pit Bull but sometimes she gets annoyed with my playfulness as well. She is much older and she often bosses me around she thinks of me as her annoying little brother. My foster home is right near Fairmount Park and I love going for hikes, hopefully I can still do that in my new home. I absolutely LOVE meeting other dogs on my hikes.  And I also like taking long naps after our hikes. I often get to play with my foster mom’s nephews, 8 and 5 years old, I love when they come over… that’s when the fun begins. We play lots of games and I chase them sometimes.  I will tell you this, I am very loyal, silly and sometime stubborn, I also think I am very handsome and love to stare at myself in the mirror.  But I spent a lot of time alone and on my own so I still get scared and need a little confidence boost once in a while.

About Our Rescue Group...
Our Mission:

Thunder’s Angels is an incorporated, non-profit organization that rescues dogs from animal control facilities where they are scheduled to be killed in gas chambers by carbon monoxide poisoning (aka: suffocation).

The shelters that we work with do their best to help the dogs but they are small, underfunded and understaffed – many of them have no veterinarians, no spay/neuter clinics, and no adoption programs—despite their best efforts, their “kill ratesâ€
