Lucky is one of the special abandoned ones that is 'lucky' to be alive.  Lucky was found on a roadside in starved condition by a police officer.  This nice man did not want to take her to animal control where she would most likely be euthanized.  He instead took her home where he and his wife and children nursed her back to health and gave her a fitting name. Once healed, the officer then brought Lucky to us hoping that we could find a good home for her. He already had several dogs and could not keep Lucky permanently.
When Lucky first came to us, she was still a little thin.  Because she is short, she looked like she had some kind of terrier in her breeding. As she filled out and got stocky, it seemed that Lucky was also probably part Pit.  She is definitely a mix.  And although she looks part Pit, she is quite short for a purebred.  Lucky's coloring also indicates a breed or breeds different from a purebred Pit.  Her coat is a, two tone pattern of chocolate and chestnut.  She has white on her chest and feet, laced with lots of chestnut freckles.
Lucky is now close to 7 1/2 - 8 years old and has been with us awhile.  Pits or Pit mixes can be harder to adopt than other breeds. It is unfortunate for Lucky because she is a loving, entertaining little gal!  She has a happy personality and LOVES to run and play!  She looks you right in the eye and is very engaging, personable and loving! She actually looks like she is smiling most of the time!:)
Lucky is great with male dogs, particularly ones that love to play like her.  Lucky is 'alpha' with other females and wants to be the boss.  She is not mean but likes to be in charge.
For someone who does not want a puppy but wants a grown dog with a happy, fun, loving personality, Lucky is absolutely the dog!  WE BEG YOU TO COME SEE AND CONSIDER HER!

About Amarillo SPCA

About Our Shelter...

The Amarillo SPCA is a 501(c)3 non profit organization. We operate solely on donations and fundraisers.

Presently, we operate a shelter for dogs and cats. We have approximately 100 animals housed at the shelter and in foster care.

One of our main concerns is pet over population. It is important that the public be educated about the importance of spaying and neutering their pets. It is also our goal to make sure every animal that is adopted from the SPCA is sterilized before going to a new home.

We receive calls daily from people who request help with their animals--either needing to give them up or asking for help with food and medical needs. We help whenever we can, but financially we're not able to help often.

We have grown to the extent that volunteers alone cannot provide necessary hours for operating the kennels. We have a shelter manager and other part time employees for the care of the animals and maintenance of our facility.

Costs for our facility include payroll for these employees, good quality food for the animals, heat and air conditioning, medical treatment for sickness or injury. Additional costs for the animals always include vaccinations, deworming, microchipping and sterilization before leaving the shelter to go to new homes. Our vet bills are high and frequently expenses are far more than the adoption fee of $100. Therefore donations are hugely appreciated! We look forward to your contribution and particularly to your interest in one of our dogs or cats as a permanent companion.

Thanks so much, Amarillo SPCA

Thank you so much,
