My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Dexter was picked up as a stay and spent 30 days in a tiny shelter with no adoption. Finally, the shelter sent out an email looking for rescue. Since one of our foster homes has a young long hair that really wanted a buddy, we raised our hand.

From his pics, we thought Dexter was about 13 lbs. Imagine our surprise when 25 lb Dexter bounded out of his crate.

Dexter could be a purebred dachshund or he could be what looks like a Shepherd and dachshund mix. He has a long body, droopy ears and short fat legs. He looks like a big dog that had his legs cut down. He's the doggie equivalent of a dining room table that has been turned
into a coffee table.

Dexter loves everybody, kids included. He is young so he is full of energy. We think he would be a great family dog.

In his foster home, Dexter is learning house manners and to accept sleeping in a crate. He has been having a blast playing with the other dogs so a playful canine companion in his new home would be great. Dexter's new family will need to commit to making sure he gets adequate exercise and lots of appropriate chew items.
