River's Story...
Say hello to River, she is a beautiful example of the Cattle Dog breed and she'd be a great family dog. Not only is she very loyal but even enjoys good tummy rubs while cuddling on the couch. Typical of most herding breeds, River is a working dog through and through and requires a home that will give her a job to do. I would describe her as a high drive/high energy cattle dog that likes and needs to stay active. River has been herding tested on sheep and does very well at it without going "over the top" or trying to harm the stock. Although River does have ball drive, she has not shown any interest in flyball, preferring you to throw it over and over again. She has shown a strong interest in Disc (Frisbee) so I have started her on the basics. This smart girl knows "Go Around" and has been working on low vaults and various small freestyle tricks. Competing at the Skyhoundz last chance qualifier in Chattanooga, TN in Sept 2011 in the D&A (distance and accuracy), River did very well for her first time at a large competition. She practices Frisbee or chases balls 3 times a day for 30-45 minutes. Like the Energizer Bunny she never seems to stop or wear out -- she "keeps going, and going, and going…" River is a very vocal dog but most Australian Cattle Dogs are. Under stimulating conditions, she can be a bit over the top. She is not a barking fanatic but, if she wants something (like to be with her human) or if you’re not throwing the disc fast enough or good enough, she will let you know it. As far as being around cats, she does not live with any at her foster home but has been introduced to them a couple of times. River is all about the chase so we would not recommend her to a household with felines. Whether you're looking for a disc dog, agility prospect, or a working cow dog, River could be your girl. But if you're hoping to find a dog that is content to just hang out and be a couch potato, you should probably continue your search. River is a spayed 1-year-old blue female weighing 35 pounds. She is up to date on vaccines, is microchipped and on heartworm preventatives. River is being fostered in Westminster, SC.

Why Adoption is a Great Option

River, a Siler City Australian Cattle Dog dog was adopted! Here's how you can benefit by looking at adoption as an option to buying a Australian Cattle Dog for sale in Siler City, or seeking a Australian Cattle Dog dog from a breeder in Siler City.

  1. Rescues and shelter volunteers in Siler City already know the personality and tendencies of their pets. This means they can match you with the right pet. That will makes it much easier transition to owning a pet for yourself and your new pet.
  2. On average adoption fees are much less than you'd pay a Siler City breeder, or pet store. Plus most often rescue pets have already been to the veterinarian for a check-up, had a round of vaccinations, and are spayed or neutered. That is a lot of savings!
  3. You will become a hero, and give a needy dog or cat a loving home. In fact, there are even Australian Cattle Dog breeders who help with Australian Cattle Dog rescue. One puppy or kitten adopted in Siler City paves the way for another one to be saved.
