Here's Jackson's sad story (but looking up!) as told by his rescuers:
Last week, we found a 6 month old pit bull puppy in the middle of the road not far from where we live. He was emaciated but came over to me when I called to him. For the past week, we have nursed him back to health, but we have not found his owner despite our best efforts. Unfortunately, with our commute, we are not a good permanent home for him.
While caring for him, we suspected he had an infection in his lip, so I took him to the vet last night to have it evaluated. It was way worse than what we ever imagined; the vet thinks he was hit by a car and his lower jaw is shattered with some teeth sheered completely off. On top of that, at some point, he had been shot in the face as there are remnants of buckshot in his jaw as well. Amazingly, the vet practice has agreed to take care of all of his surgery free of charge (!!!!!!!!) as long as I find a home for this puppy.
We have a 5-yr-old son and they get along great. So far, he does not get along well with cats; however, that may change as he becomes more used to them. As far as other dogs go, we haven't seen him interact too much yet, so we'll have to see how he is with them once he's feeling better.
So, we need to find a good, safe, responsible home. He is an amazing dog and cute to boot. He is sweet, loving, mostly house-trained (still learning) and learning commands - even after just a few days with us and despite being in an immense amount of pain. This dog deserves the best home we can find for him.
