Size: Small 25 lbs (11 kg) or less Sex: Female
Chrissy's Story...
Chrissy - 7 year old female purebred Miniature Schnauzer. Chrissy was rescued from a high kill shelter after her owners dumped her because "they had no time for her" (we all know how busy the holidays can be). Her picture here is her get-a-way from the pokey... you can see she was very happy to make her escape! Chrissy is a friendly easy going girl that gets along well wiht other dogs. She is over weight at approximately 22 pounds (probably should be closer to 17 pounds).

UPDATE: Chrissy was recently diagnosed with having heart disease. After a fainting episode we took her to a cardiologist and found out Chrissy does have damage to both her heart valves. She currently is on a drug called Enapril which runs about $18 a month. Chrissy is a very special girl she may not have a lot of years left but she'd make a wonderful companion to whoever has a heart big enough to give her a home.

About Our Rescue Group...

Who We Are

Miniature Schnauzers & Friends Rescue is an all-volunteer 501(c)(3) non-profit rescue organization based in the Los Angeles South Bay area. We are a small group of rescuers who have been actively rescuing animals in our community for nearly a decade. We do not have a shelter, our volunteers provide foster care for the dogs until we find them loving permanent homes. We are a small organization and handle a very limited number of dogs... while we know we aren't making even the slighest dent in the number of homeless dogs, we know we are make all the difference to the ones that we are able to save. Most of the dogs we get come from the LA area shelters but we also get dogs as strays and sometimes as owner surrenders. We rescue not only Miniature Schnauzers but dogs of all different breeds, purebred and mixes alike varying in sizes and ages. Please note that we are not a source to get purebred puppies as purebred puppies in rescue are very rare.

Our Mission

In the greater Los Angeles County shelters alone an average of 475 pets are euthanized daily. There just aren't enough homes for them all. Our mission is to help provide animals a second chance to have a happy life and to help reduce pet overpopulation. We save dogs in need and provide them with proper care and foster homes while they await adoption. We evaluate the dogs the best we can in order to place them into loving homes that best suits their needs as well as potential adopters needs. We also try to educate the public on how to be responsible pet owners and the on the importance of spaying and neutering their pets. The only real solution to pet overpopulation is through spaying and neutering pets. And please remember before you adopt a pet, the committment needs to be for the lifetime of the pet... if you can't make that type of commitment, please rethink getting a pet. The shelters are full of animals there were once adopted or purchased by people who may have had the best intentions at that time but just didn't give enough thought about it being a 12-18 year commitment.

Our Adoption Process...

Our Adoption Policies

Miniature Schnauzers & Friends Rescue restricts pet adoptions to residences of the Los Angeles, CA area. We do not ship animals nor do we do any type of long distance adoptions. We do not adopt to persons under 21 years of age. We require prospective adopters to meet both us and the animal, fill out an application and be interviewed. Adoptions are not done a first come first serve basis. Applications are taken all day on our adoption days and applicants are selected based upon the best match of the particular pet's temperament and needs. If an application is approved we will require a home check so we can ensure the animals safety. These pets are not for sale and the decision of where to place them is solely the responsibility of Miniature Schnauzers & Friends Rescue. The dogs do not need "rescuing" they have already been rescued and are safe in foster homes until a properly matched home can be found. We reserve the right to refuse placement of our pets to any individual who does not meet our criteria. We also reserve the right to keep our reasons for refusal confidential within our organization. The welfare of our rescue animals is our top priority.

There is an adoption donation fee which ranges from $250-$350 (although seniors and special needs pets may be adopted at a reduced fee). The adoption fee must be paid via check or cash, we do not accept credit cards. The adoption fee is used to help offset some of the cost needed to operate our rescue organization. All of our animals are spayed/neutered, vet checked, vaccinated and dewormed prior to placement. There is a grace period of two weeks (one week for puppies under 4 months) for refund of the adoption fee if the animal should need to be returned to us. We have an adoption contract which requires you to contact Miniature Schnauzers & Friends Rescue if at anytime you should no longer be able to keep your pet. Pets adopted through Miniature Schnauzers & Friends Rescue can not be sold, traded, given away or disposed of in any way. Although all of our animals are thoroughly evaluated, we cannot guarantee their health or temperament.

Click here for a printable copy of our dog application form.

PLEASE NOTE: Filling out an application DOES NOT guarantee an adoption. We have thoroughly evaluated all of the animals in our care, and try very hard to match the right pet to the right person and situation. We reserve the right not to adopt.

Why Adoption is a Great Option

Chrissy, a Redondo Beach Schnauzer (Miniature) dog was adopted! Here's how you can benefit by looking at adoption as an option to buying a Schnauzer (Miniature) for sale in Redondo Beach, or seeking a Schnauzer (Miniature) dog from a breeder in Redondo Beach.

  1. Rescues and shelter volunteers in Redondo Beach already know the personality and tendencies of their pets. This means they can match you with the right pet. That will makes it much easier transition to owning a pet for yourself and your new pet.
  2. On average adoption fees are much less than you'd pay a Redondo Beach breeder, or pet store. Plus most often rescue pets have already been to the veterinarian for a check-up, had a round of vaccinations, and are spayed or neutered. That is a lot of savings!
  3. You will become a hero, and give a needy dog or cat a loving home. In fact, there are even Schnauzer (Miniature) breeders who help with Schnauzer (Miniature) rescue. One puppy or kitten adopted in Redondo Beach paves the way for another one to be saved.
