Rodney's Story...
Rodney and Ase are boys who were born March 2011. They are devoted to one another and Rodney is learning everything social from Ase.

Rodney (the one with the dots) and Ase are kittens who were not socialized typically with people, but they have come a long, long way in the past months and are now loving boys who climb on humans and now seek affection.

Their mother Tricia was semi-feral and Rodney in particular still is distrustful when he is out of his room in the “big house”. Both Rodney and Ase are now accepted fully by the “big cats” (who are nine years). Ase & Rodney are running and playing together daily with the “big cats” - and there is no animosity. Lying on the bed with the oldsters is ok with Everyone.

Each day, before they come out of their room (and after they have eaten), they are held in loving arms and they are now(surprisingly) vying for their respective turn. Both cats are now begging for human love! Recently, Ase fell asleep in the human lap and Rodney joined the party on the couch for his own stroking and loving.

Rodney is a little wary yet when he is out in the big house, but in The Boys Room he is rolling and cuddling and taking pets that include the chest and tummy! He is still wary of being picked up, but he does not struggle when he is held. Hands are for loving, and toys are for playing – it really works!

Ase is perfectly acclimated to the “big house” and is following his humans around and presenting himself for stroking and holding at just about any time. Ase is still the acrobat and recently sprang in play from behind, turning in mid-air to drop a paw on the resident matron cat. She jumped - and the chase was on.

Rodney and Ase have a room separate from their mother Tricia, but they are visiting her and it is now They who are teaching her that contact with humans is really OK. The boys will still need a patient and thoughtful new home to keep some structure to the bonding process, but 4 months in their new foster home has brought them much success and experience. Staying together is important to them both.

Why Adoption is a Great Option

Rodney, a Merrifield Domestic Shorthair cat was adopted! Here's how you can benefit by looking at adoption as an option to buying a Domestic Shorthair for sale in Merrifield, or seeking a Domestic Shorthair cat from a breeder in Merrifield.

  1. Rescues and shelter volunteers in Merrifield already know the personality and tendencies of their pets. This means they can match you with the right pet. That will makes it much easier transition to owning a pet for yourself and your new pet.
  2. On average adoption fees are much less than you'd pay a Merrifield breeder, or pet store. Plus most often rescue pets have already been to the veterinarian for a check-up, had a round of vaccinations, and are spayed or neutered. That is a lot of savings!
  3. You will become a hero, and give a needy dog or cat a loving home. In fact, there are even Domestic Shorthair breeders who help with Domestic Shorthair rescue. One puppy or kitten adopted in Merrifield paves the way for another one to be saved.
