My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

From Tanner's foster mom: Tanner is like a delightful piece of chocolate! This little cutie pie is incredibly special and as sweet as they come! He loves to impress you with his doggie smarts and amusing spirit, and if you like to play follow-the-leader, then this boy will impress you with his following skills. He's wag-the-tail happy when he's by your side, whether it's at home, on the trails, or in the car.

With Tanner's quirky and sweet demeanor, it's hard to imagine that someone would hurt him, but one of his previous owners did. Therefore, Tanner is cautious about men and loud noises, and he will bark. However, if you're patient and gentle, he warms up almost immediately, and a quick "Tanner, come" will redirect him. He is wary of children because he has had very little experience with them, but he has warmed up to our fifteen-year-old twins very well. Tanner just needs compassion and kindness. He is a very friendly and silly little fellow, and he will entertain you with love and silliness for as long as you'll let him!

Tanner is good on a leash, but he is superb off leash! He runs around with his Springer sister but quickly comes back to check on me, and he always comes when he is called. We've been told that he is a trained hunter and has hunted every year except this one. He gets along great with other dogs and cats. He loves to play in the snow as well as swim in the lake, he loves toys and chase, and he enjoys car rides. He's excitable, but when it's time to settle down, he'll cozy up next to you. He's a very smart boy and knows several commands: Come, Sit, Lie Down, Wait, Roll Over, Drop It, and Leave It. He was a champ at the vet's and he's outstanding with the groomer. He's also potty trained and crate trained. At night, he sleeps soundly in his crate. He'll also happily relax in his crate, listening to music, if we leave.

Tanner is a lovable boy who desires a Forever Family that is gentle, affectionate, and happy. He is truly a little angel, and he can't wait to bless his new family with his sticky sweet kisses and loving heart!

Please note that an approved adoption application is the first step in a more thorough interview process that is designed to match each dog to exactly the right family, and that the final decision rests with the dog's case manager.

Please read the Adoption FAQ and get an Adoption Application approved before inquiring about Tanner.
