My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

We would like to explain that if you are looking for a perfect dog, they are rarely found in rescue. Our dogs often have unknown histories and we do our very best to evaluate each dog with kids, cats, and other dogs as well as determine how they behave in a home. It is important to understand that we have some specific criteria for each dog based on their backgrounds and input from their foster families. The purpose of these criteria is to better match each dog with an appropriate family. While a certain dog might appeal to you based on breed, size, gender or appearance, you may not match the listed criteria. Please understand that we are not trying to make adoption difficult—we are trying to make each adoption successful for the dog and the new family.

If you have children, we suggest that prior to applying for a dog, you view the website http://www.livingwithkidsanddogs.com. The information is excellent and can help you determine which dog would be right for your family.

Howie is a 5 yr. old, 70 pound male foxhound who lost his home when his human passed away. Howie does very well with adults, children of all ages, other dogs, and cats. He enjoys “wrestling” and playing with the other dogs in his foster home. He also likes his chew toys. He is very sweet, affectionate dog who thinks he is a lap dog indoors but outside he loves to have a big fenced yard so he can run. Howie is house-trained perfectly and loves to go for walks Because Howie is a scent hound, he is instinctually led by his nose, and MUST be on a leash or in a fenced in yard if he is outside. He is also an escape artist if he sees an opportunity to slip out the door and he needs more training to be polite and wait to go out. Howie is looking for a family that has previous hound experience and is home a good deal of the time. He seems to miss the kids when they go to school and after school they can’t get in the door fast enough for him. He does not jump on them but eagerly greets them at the door! Howie is a very special guy with a sweet spirit, a big heart, and will be a lifelong loyal companion to his forever family. Howie’s adoption fee is $150.00. He is heartworm negative and on prevention, neutered, and his vaccines are current.
