My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Adopted 1/19/12 !!!

Robin is an adorable Golden Retriever mix who is about two years old. He is neutered, HW negative, and recently had a full health checkup, pronouncing him to be in great shape. We are told that his breath even smells sweet! He currently weighs 57 pounds and will remain on the smaller side for a Golden. This young fellow is extremely beautiful, with a silky blonde coat and sweet Golden eyes. His coat is on the lighter side and not as heavy as some Goldens so he is a little easier to groom than thicker coated Goldens.

Robin has an absolutely wonderful disposition and is extremely loving. He needs to be adopted by someone who loves affectionate dogs as he craves affection. Robin is smart, easily trained and is housebroken. He would loves playing fetch with his balls or his toys. True to the Golden nature, this adorable fellow loves his walks and calms down nicely when he comes back inside. He got all along well with the other dog in his former home and was tested out around many cats at his vet’s - he showed little interest in them. Robin does love to play rough with other dogs and the 6-year-old dog in his former home was not a fan of Robin’s desire to play, play, play.

Robin is presently being fostered in western Massachusetts. His foster mom told us that he is very calm in the house - most of the time. Occasionally Robin takes to chasing a ball or running from window to window if a dog or person is visible. Outside, he is okay on leash but he is a Houdini at getting out of any collar other than a slip/choker style of collar. The first day with his new foster, Robin backed out of his simple buckle collar to go meet the neighbor’s dog. Foster Karen was able to grab his scruff and get him into the house "naked" and said she will never again leave the house without a slip-lead on. Robin has a lot of energy and needs a fenced yard to run in. He is eager to go off after every bird, squirrel, or critter. He seems to miss having a doggy companion to play with and sits at Karen’s windows and will whimper and whine when another dog passes. With this in mind, Robin’s ideal home should have a canine companion to play with and one who can take Robin’s rough and tumble nature.

Robin is a great watch dog and always on the alert. His foster mom told us how at 3:00 AM, “Robbie woke me up barking loudly and had gone downstairs to do it. He even did some growling! It turned out there were coyotes howling rather close by. He kept running to windows barking, tail wagging, looking more as if he really wanted to get out there with them acting as if he weren’t afraid at all! I got him calmed down and back upstairs, closing the door, but long after the coyotes had stopped Robbie was still perched on the chest by the window at full attention.”

Karen describes Robin as very affectionate, totally house trained, very quiet (has only barked twice in these 10 days – other than his coyote stint!), calm in the house, can be left alone without destroying anything. He is a good traveler, likes people and other dogs, and really wants to please you. An owner who can provide this handsome fellow with adequate exercise is a must.. Robin is ready to be molded into your perfect companion and is sure to be snatched up in flash! He is ready to grab his leash and GO HOME!

About Our Rescue

Before being approved to adopt, all potential adopters need to complete our online application and participate in our pre-adoption review process. The process includes the completion of an online application, a reference from the applicants' vet, a phone interview, and a visit to the applicants' home. The application process helps us determine what type of Golden would be best suited for the applicants' life style. In some cases, the specific dog you are interested in may have found a home before this process is complete or further assessment may find that this dog is not the right match for your family. We are regularly getting new Goldens in need of a home, so we encourage you to apply and get approved so that when the right dog comes along you will be ready.

A contract is signed the day of adoption. Under the terms of the contract, all adopters are required to bring the rescue to a vet within 7 business days. The dogs receive basic veterinary care prior to adoption. If your vet identifies an illness that an adopter is not willing to treat, then the dog is returned and a full refund is provided.

The information provided on each dog is based on observations of our vets, volunteers, fosters and when available, trainers. While we do our best to report any and all issues, SGRR does not make any guarantees as to the health or temperament of any dog. Dogs evolve differently in different environments and we cannot predict with any certainty how the dog you adopt will act in your home.

Many of our dogs are fostered in private homes and we do not have a facility to visit. We are committed to our dogs before, during, and after adoption! The rescue retains title to the dog and can never be released or sold. Should the adopters no longer be able to keep the dog, SGRR must be notified so that we can take the dog back into rescue and place it into another home. We reserve the right to remove a dog at any time should we find the adopter is no longer caring for their Golden in a way we see fit. Adopters then have to agree to follow up visits as needed.
