My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

"SPIKE"
Quaker
Fostered by Kirsten & Shawn of Tampa, FL

Spike is a sweet little Quaker Parrot who is very young, less than a year. He will offer his foot and “step up” when asked. Sometimes he repeats “step up” after you say it. He doesn’t say any other words, but we think he is trying to learn to talk since he mumbles parrot gibberish quite often. He will laugh if he hears you laugh and he enjoys climbing around outside his cage, and he does not have any cage aggression. He is nippy sometimes when you try to remove him from your shoulder. Spike would love to sit on your shoulder all day. He likes to groom you and occasionally nips a bit too hard, but he is still young and learning proper parrot behavior! He has never really bit us. He enjoys being near you, and is typically quiet when he is outside of his cage. He is quite vocal when he can hear you but not see you. His vocalizations are softer than those of larger birds. Spike is currently being transitioned from an all-seed diet to a diet made up of pellets, fruits and vegetables. So far he likes corn, sweet potatoes and quinoa. His veterinarian says he is a “very good bird!” If you are looking for a friendly, loving parrot companion, Spike is your bird!
