ADOPTED - OCT. 3, 2012 RENAMED PHOEBE.
Now she spends her time tossing her penguin toy in the air and catching it again, going for jogs and playing with her dog buddies, doing zoomies around the house and skating on the linoleum floor, stealing laundry to hoard in her lair, getting yummy food and treats, and exploring the world in the company of her foster parents. Her name is Edelweiss.
Edelweiss had lived a sad existence. Probably kept in a small, confined space before she broke free, her foot pads were soft and tender and she had urine burns on her fur. Found in a woman's back yard on a freezing day in November 2011, she was a sorry sight: skeletal, every bone plain to see and much fur loss from starvation. The woman fed her and tried to find her a home. A rescuer found her post on Craigslist and drove off into the night to get her out of harm's way. The dog's luck had turned! Treat Em Right Rescue welcomed her into their program.
Edelweiss is an intriguing dog. Her sharp mind is full of curiosity and she is always alert to her surroundings, watching everything with keen interest. She is eager to please and easy to train. She absorbs everything like a sponge.
Edelweiss is affectionate to the max. She loves all petting and attention and loves you in return. She is quite energetic and loves to jog and run. She romps with her best dog friend with great abandon. But who is her true best friend? That would be the evil cat in the home who jumps on her head and beats her up. She adores him.
Edelweiss is hilarious. She looks for all the world like a bossy rabbit as she hops and barks! She will nibble your toes for you if you let her. She has all the charm of an adorable puppy in her curiosity and funny antics. Well, she is only about 10 months old (01/2012) after all.
Edelweiss is very beautiful in her snowy soft white coat with a sprinkling of beautiful freckles on her large polka-dot ears! Her clear green eyes are merry and she has a cute black nose. She has gained much needed weight and is now about 50 lbs. She has a smiling face and her happiness is plain to see.
If you are interested in adopting this beautiful dog who never let her hardships affect her loving nature or her eager zest for life, please go to treatemright.org and fill out an application for her. We will be glad to make arrangements for your visit and Edelweiss is sure to give you a big hello! Thank you!
Rescue Group Info...
Treat ‘Em Right Rescue is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to the rescue and rehabilitation of the American Pit Bull Terrier and other “bully” breeds.
All of our dogs come to us from high-kill shelters, police raids, or confiscations resulting from animal cruelty cases. We often take in dogs that have been the victims of indescribable abuse and neglect.
We provide these dogs with the medical attention they need to heal physically and the love and attention they need to heal emotionally. It is our mission to find each of our dogs a loving home, promote responsible ownership, and educate the public about the gentle, affectionate, and loyal nature of the American Pit Bull Terrier.
Through these education and advocacy initiatives, we believe that we can restore the reputation of a breed that was once America’s favorite dog.
