WINSTON - ADOPTION PENDING's Info...
I am already neutered, housetrained, purebred, a special needs pet, up to date with shots, and good with dogs.
Winston was dropped off to fend for himself on the edge of a neighborhood in Tehachapi, CA. This very rural place has lots of wildlife predators who roam the area. Winston was lucky enough to be noticed and taken in by a Good Samaritan, enabling him to find his way to ABGRA. This, in itself, is a despicable act to do to a helpless pet, but Winston is not just any dog.
Winston, you see, is special! Not because he is a darling 10 pound Brussels Griffon, although he is ALL THAT, but because Winston is a senior citizen with special needs.
He is about 10 years old and he has been the perfect little gentleman since arriving at his foster home. Winston is a charmer, very social and friendly, and quickly weasels his way into the heart of everyone he meets. He has his favorite squeaky toy and sleeps quietly at night. He gets along well with the resident pets, but would not need a canine companion in his new home. He mostly wants a special someone to love and a lap would be divine~!
Winston is a snuggler and he makes no bones about it.
Winston has a condition called Phthisis bulbi rendering Winston blind. It is caused by severe ocular insult or degenerative process and causes the globes to shrink in the sockets.
Our consulted veterinarians tell us he is not in any pain, nor does he seem to be, and no treatment is needed.
Winston is compensating very well and seems comfortably adjusted to being sightless. He will use a doggy door reliably once he learns where it is. He has been exploratory in his foster home and yard, but stairs and steps are a bit worrisome. If he could tell us, he would probably prefer to be a flat-lander. He will need to have a securely fenced yard to keep safe, and would do OK with older children who understand his special considerations.
Winston has recently had a dental, and he has been neutered, wormed, and brought up to date on vaccines. He will be micro chipped before adoption.
Please keep in mind that we prefer to place our dogs within driving distance of where they are being fostered. If someone outside the local area is approved for adoption, they must be willing to travel to where Winston is located. We never, ever ship our dogs in cargo.
