MHCR is a group of women with the common goal to help the animal over population problem in San Antonio and surrounding area. By working with the City of San Antonio's Animal Care Service, the nonprofit group MHCR is able to rescue over 400 dogs and cats deemed unadoptable and place them in happy, permanent homes. Our goal is to increase our number every year. Founded in 2011 by Michelle Holmes, MHCR is working to educate the community on the vital importance of becoming a responsible pet owner and to save a life. By helping support MHCR through a donation, spreading the word or adopt a homeless pet or spay and neuter existing pets, MHCR can make a difference.

Our Adoption Process...
Thank you for your interest in the adoption of an animal from MHCR.
We promote animal rescue and adoption. If you are interested in adopting a puppy, please fill out an application, and if approved, a meeting can be arranged. Also, we only adopt young puppies locally due to the 4 month timeframe it takes to get them fully vetted. OUT OF STATE ADOPTIONS: We do allow out-of-state adoptions for dogs, however, the adopter MUST pay for all transportation fees. NOTE: As we believe proper healthcare of one's pet is a requirement of good ownership, MHCR only adopts out dogs that have been fully vetted and altered. ADOPTION FEE: $125.00 (includes spay/neuter, shots, microchip, medicines and medical procedures, if necessary) Many of the rescues MHCR accepts into its adoption program require extensive medical care and rehabilitation. There is an additional $ 50 charge for animals that have undergone heart worm treatment, received orthopedic care, and have been treated for specialized medical conditions such as "cherry eye", mange, dental disease, Heartworm infection, amputations, dental disease, and simple neglect are just some of the challenges MHCR manages. Such illnesses require additional expenses and resources leading to a nominal increase in our standard adoption fee. In this way, we can provide the most optimal veterinary care to prepare our rescues for adoption. Please LIKE and share our Facebook page www.facebook.com/missyshavencr Thanks!
