My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Scooter and Thelma were brought to our vet clinic to be put to sleep. You might be wondering why someone would bring these two gorgeous chihuahuas to a vet, to put them to sleep. Something has to be really wrong with them, right? Wrong.

Actually the something "wrong" was wrong with their owner. Not Scooter and Thelma. She decided she just didn't have time for them anymore. So to the clinic they went. Of course, we were called immediately, and committed to taking both these little ones into our care.

Scooter is three years old. He weighs around 4 pounds, just a little guy. When we first saw him in the cage at the vet with Thelma, he was sitting in the back corner shivering. Well I'm not sure where that dog went, but he certainly isn't here. Scooter has completely come out of his shell and loves everyone around.

Thelma hasn't changed. Which is just fine with us, because when we first saw Thelma she stood up and started "pattycaking". Can you get more adorable? She also weighs around 4 pounds and is 6 years old.

These two can go together, or separate. As long as they have a forever home, they will be happy.

The first step in the adoption process is to fill out an online adoption application. You can find a copy of that application here. We sometimes receive a lot of interest on an animal and can't always reply to each email in a timely manner. An application does not obligate you to adopt from us, but it does show that you are serious about the adoption process. Please remember we are all volunteers.

After you submit your application please allow a few days for a volunteer to review your application. During this time your vet reference will be checked and a volunteer with determine if it is the best match for you and the animal. Applications are not approved on a first come, first serve basis. We match up the best home for the animal, so even if the pet has other applications, this does not meet he/she will be adopted to that home.

Once your application has been approved a volunteer with contact you to set up a phone interview. This is the perfect time for you to ask any questions you have about the adoption process and the animal you are interested in.
