Bubbles&Orion's Story...
UPDATE 5/8/12:
Bubbles (Holland lop) has been bonded with permanent Sanctuary rabbit, Orion, who has megacolon. So she can only be adopted with Orion and only as a permanent foster (along with Orion under the same circumstances). Homes interest in permanently fostering Bubbles and Orion need to have good experience caring for house rabbits. The expenses involved with permanent fostering all be tax deductible but the foster parent will need to be responsible for expenses and provide regulary reporting of expenses. Bubbles and Orion live in a large 5' diameter baby pool which is very luxurious for them. However this takes up about six or seven square feet so space is also a concern for them.

Permanent fosterers should also live in the area of their specialty vet at VRA VCA in Gaithersburg.

Please, no inquiries from children or folks in transient situations. Please review our shelter info right here on Adopt-a-Pet as well as our website.

*******

Blind, some peripheral vision, tiny little cataracts blocking center of pupil, probably since birth. Very sweet and trusting. Loves people who are calm and gentle & barley biscuits! Not a big drinker, big hay eater. Shouldn't have too many pellets. Drinks from a regular sipper water bottle with bubbles printed on it.

About Our Rescue Group...
We work to promote the viewpoint that all animals have an intrinsic value independent of what value humans may place upon them, they have a will-to-be. Our work is based on the Reverence for Life philosophy of Dr. Albert Schweitzer, Nobel Peace Prize winner 1952, for this philosophy which became the basis for the work of all rescue groups. We help animals and promote their viewpoint because it needs to be done. We are a small group of people who believe that every animal's life is valued by that animal so we rescue rabbits that would otherwise be destroyed or not taken in by any other rescue group. Our goal is to take the plain, the ordinary, and the unpopular colorings and raise awareness of their sentience as equal to the fancy rabbits who do manage to find homes the second time around.
Come Meet Our Pets...
As rabbits are prey animals who suffer great stress from change and transition in their lives, our adoption events are for approved adopters only. Bunny matches (rabbit introductions) are arranged as needed. We encourage all rabbit caretakers to keep more than one rabbit as a single rabbit spending many hours a day alone is a sad life for a highly social animal.
Our Adoption Process...
We require a veterinary reference and an adoption application filled out correctly and thoughtfully. See the FAQ section on our site for information on how to adopt. Our adoption fees vary from $50-100 depending on how long rabbit has been in foster, male or female. We have an ADOPTION APPLICATION and ADOPTION CONTRACT, home visit, and extensive education process for first time rabbit adopters since so much contradictory rabbit care information can be found online. Our website attempts to provide all the information an adopter will need for the lifetime of the rabbit. We have housing requirements as well, must be indoor pets and the habitat inside the house must be satisfactory. We have an extensive section on our website about this. Taking rabbit to a qualified exotics veterinarian is paramount.
