Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Tamarack is a beautiful tricolor Australian Shepherd boy, about 4 years old, who has found himself at the shelter (along with 5 cats) after the death of his owner. Another reminder: every pet owner should have a written pet plan, just in case - don't let your family members end up at a shelter like Tamarack and his 5 kitty friends.
Tamarack is an affectionate and smart dog who gets along well with other dogs, cats, and horses. He really enjoys romping outside with people, though he doesn't understand playing with toys much yet (we'll be working on that). He came in with a badly matted and dirty coat, but we think he will clean up well! We'll do some clipping, but recommend his new owner take him to a good groomer for a real Australian Shepherd clipping.
Tamarack doesn't seem to know many commands except "come" and his name, but he is eager to please and we think he will pick up the other basics fairly quickly in the hands of a devoted owner who can invest 15 minutes a day into training. He is not comfortable on leash yet, but he is polite and doesn't pull. When he gets excited about a visitor, he will sometimes do a "modified" jump-up - he jumps up as if to put his paws on the person, but holds back and doesn't actually touch them! So, he's had some training in the "off" command.
Tamarack will be a terrific companion, and would love a home where there can be someone to hang out with most of the time. He seems to be housetrained, and we expect him to make a fairly quick adjustment to his new family. He loves cuddles and attention, and will want to be an integrated member of the household.
Like all our adult pet placements, Tamarack comes with a 30-day money-back trial adoption period.
Spay/neuter, worming, microchip and all age-appropriate shots are always completed before placement, and are included in the adoption fee (suggested minimum $75; more gratefully accepted!)
Can't come to Republic? Don't let that stop you! We have monthly transports to both the Seattle area and Spokane, delivering adopted pets to their new owners. If you can add a little to your donation to help us cover our volunteer driver's expenses, that would be great!
