My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Where does one little cat get so much energy??? Petey is an amazing cat with so many funny little quirks that are guaranteed to keep you laughing! He loves to play and will chase just about anything that moves - balls, mice, other cats - you name it. Petey finds feather toys and swizzle wands irresistible...you can get him to dance in circles as he tries to catch them! What's so funny though is once he catches his toy; you hear a soft growling noise as he swiftly drags the toy off in triumph to his lair. We're not sure if he's growling to further intimidate his toy into submission or because he's satisfied with a job well done - whichever it is, it's hysterical to witness!

Petey is a menace to all unprotected paper towel rolls he meets. We have seen him on more than one occasion wrestling with and biting paper towel rolls. In one instance, Petey got so carried away he actually managed to get tangled up in the paper towels! He was trying to hide, as if to say," you don't see me", but his long fluffy tail sticking out gave him away. Paper towel rolls aren't the only things that fear Petey's presence. Petey has a blanket in his room that he apparently prefers to have on the floor as opposed to on top of his carpeted perch. If you put the blanket, nicely folded, on the perch, Petey gets to work immediately. First he starts by chewing on the corner of it, and then he grabs it in his mouth and shakes it vigorously from side to side. From there, he proceeds to throw it on the floor, chew on it a couple of times, and growl at it for good measure. Once he is done, he sits on top of it looking very pleased with himself!

Petey is also quite the hunter..woe to the fly that makes its presence known to Petey. A volunteer witnessed Petey's hunting prowess firsthand..."A couple of weeks back there was a fly in his room. He was jumping up on the washer and dryer, a stool, the sink, flying through the air, digging behind the storage containers, anything he could do to get his little paws on this fly! He finally did catch it and was very satisfied with himself." Our volunteer was incredibly amused by the whole episode!

All this energy and action, one might get the impression that Petey doesn't sit still long enough to hang out with his people. You couldn't be further from the truth. Petey is an incredibly loving cat! He loves to follow his people around and greets them by rubbing their legs. Once you sit down, Petey loves to hop in your lap and roll around making it easier for you to pet him all over! He likes to be held, loves being brushed (until he starts playing with the brush!), and purrs incessantly! He'll even give kisses once and awhile.

Some other fun facts about our boy...Petey loves to hang out on high perches where he can keep an eye on everything. He's also been on an outing or two and has done well walking on a leash. He does well with other friendly kitties and was fine with a mellow pug he ran into on one of his outings; however when he ran into two energetic pugs, they were a bit overwhelming for him and he decided to hide. And finally, our handsome boy is a bit of a flirt, yes - he knows he's a looker! One of our volunteers noticed how Petey kept shifting positions in front of her one evening as if he were posing for a cat calendar shoot...Arms outstretched, paws pointed, head erect, then ever so slightly turned to the side. Every move was designed to maximize his handsomeness. We suspect the theme song he rocks to is "Too Sexy" - I'm too sexy for my fur, too sexy for my fur...

So there you have it - that's our Petey in a nutshell! But words can only do so much - the purrsonal Petey encounter is a must - only then can one fully appreciate this little guy and all that he has to offer! Petey would do well in just about any loving family, one with respectful children and other felines included, maybe even a mellow canine friend...all he's waiting for is for you to come and meet him!
